the opening inventory is 400 units because assume :

opening stock + 300 unit (bought on 5/7) – 500units(issued on 10/7) + 400units(bought on15/7) – 200 units(issued on 20/7) = 400 units of closing inventory

will give out the opening inventory as 400 units.
