There were multiple reasons for my failure but I don’t think the books were the biggest problem.

I know where I went wrong last time round, and I can use the opentuition notes to focus on those areas, but I don’t want to miss a change in the other sections that will cost me. Of course, I will use the opentutition notes to look at those other sections as well, but when you ‘know’ an area it’s easy to overlook something that may turn out to be a vital change if you know what I mean

I don’t want to use the previous year exams to study, as I’ll then be limited when I try to practise whole exams later in my revision . . . I’ll know the answers so it won’t be a test as such

Q4 was a mare…. on Q5 was i right in not carrying back the relief to the 1st year they gave??? that would’ve taken it over the 36 months allowed right?? should put it out of my mind really…. cant change it now!

Yeah, 36 months only – maxed at 50k, so you should have had something left over to carry forward. I think that was the only question I breezed through, just a damned shame it’s only worth 10 marks!

    A disaster, truely 🙁

The VAT forms? Wtf was that about, how can they expect us to know every little detail of things. I know the basics of a P45, P60 etc, but the dates they are due? How are we to remember stuff like that, as well as the thousands of other tiny little nuances of tax? I just think there is too much in the syllabus for us to be examined on something as mundane as that…. sour grapes I suppose, but I think most people will have to keep re-taking until they get lucky and the stuff they know is questioned.

Although saying that, even on the relatively easier stuff I made silly mistakes (adding the phone costs onto Q1 when I KNEW it was exempt!)…. Q2 and Q5 were easy enough, I just hope I done enough to pass
