Passed at first attempt and now an affiliate. Did self study, full time employee, married and a mother of 4 boys, never failed a single paper. Sat for my first exam in June 2014 and finished ACCA in exactly 2 years and half. Determination is key. Revise alot of exam papers and learn the exam technique.TIME MANAGEMENT IS KEY AS WELL. Glory be to God.

To all those that are still studying I can only say all the best

Was actually thinking at one point that he is your assistant especially seeing that I haven’t gotten my response from the Tutor on the Reclassification to Profit or Loss from the OCI but instead got a quick response from Wesbyss so I took it that he’s an OT tutor.

Wesbyss are you a finalist if I may ask? because you seem to come out so quick and so well on each and every question and if you are a student yet to sit for P2 then I guess for you its a known pass.

    Hi Binh

I’m thinking what you need to understand in your first question to the tutor is the CHANGES IN OWNERSHIP which I had challenges in understanding but I’m happy now that I do. There are four forms in it and dependent on what you are asked you will then be able to determine whether its profit on disposal etc etc it starts from understanding the following:

    Relationships Entity
    Control Subsidiary
    Influence Associate
    neither Investment

so from the above, relationships and entities may move in any direction such that @ times you may come from an associate to Subsidiary of vise versa and the four ways in Changes in ownership is as follows:

    1. Acquisition – (say from 10% sub, purchase additional 40 percent and in substance you have moved from Investment to Subsidiary).

2 Disposal – from a subsidiary to either Associate or Investment (you calculate profit/loss on disposal)

and the other two are two forms of transfer which are:

    3. From NCI to CI (use proportionate method) and

    4. From CI to NCI (use the percentage method)

not sure if this will help and I stand to be corrected by the tutor where I have missed it.

Thankyou very much for your reply now I understand.

Would also kindly tell me what is observable inputs and unobservable inputs in Fair Value – Valuation technique hierarchy. I do self study and so I turn to get stuck with certain terms. I saw a setence that said maximise on observable inputs and minimise on unobservable inputs) but then I don’t know what they mean

Very very helpful as I also got stuck on this part of the question and I really got frustrated. the 10 year thing was easy to understand but the 34/40 thing was really confusing and I couldnt make out what the reason for the fraction was. It makes a lot of sense to learn that it was because the Sub was for six years. Will now go back to the question and see if I can see things the way you have explained it. Thanks alot

    Dear John Moffat

Kindly assist me with how to go about finding the payment/receipts amounts when exchange rates are, for example given as in the Hybrid questoin two called “The Amstrong Group” I know how to find the amounts by diving each amount per say with the middle rate but in the case of questions like this how did they calculate the amounts 12.17, 3.97, 3.88, 19.78, 2.13, 2.98 and 2.11. I really feel frustrated because I ve known Netting questions to be quiet friendly
