Hi, I want to know if my supervisor is required to sign off my work through his official email id or his personal id? because even though he is an ACCA member, he just recently resigned and only after his resigning did my PER time got completed. I’m confused if he can still sign off or not.
November 12, 2016 at 7:10 am #348536I am confused. i just did the 4 question answering of SLS and i was just checking the ACCA website and it says that SLS should be a 2000 word assessment from Nov 16 submission onwards but the new Info Pack still asks to answer the 4 questions. Which one to follow?
April 20, 2016 at 6:23 pm #311943Okay. So i just explained sales revenue and revenue growth yearly wise under financial ratios. If i have to write about a kpi that is relevant to revenues, do i add it under the sales revenue heading or i should explain that seperately? I’m confused where to add kpis.
April 20, 2016 at 9:07 am #311846@trephena you recommend pestle. However if both airlines are of the same country and function in same environment, how would pestle be useful? Shouldn’t i use porter then?
Also the financial statements of the airlines are also available from google finance. My question is that a lot of things differ from the financial statements available in annual reports. Like the operating expense amounts both differ but the end result is the same. Which financial statements should i follow?April 20, 2016 at 6:11 am #311806@Trephena i’d be grateful if you reply to my question too. If my question is a typical one, again i’m sorry but i wasn’t able to find it anywhere. Please can you tell what ratios for airlines should be calculated?
April 16, 2016 at 10:52 am #310343Thank you and can you also guide me what ratios to calculate for airlines? apart from operating margin and net margin, i calculated current ratio, debt to equity ratio, interest cover, earnings per share and P/E ratio. what other ratios should be calculated? and which ones from what i have calculated shouldn’t be included?
and i’m re-writing my previous question again: If my company leases aircraft to other companies and gain revenues this way, should i consider it under resource utilization?April 15, 2016 at 3:58 pm #3102611. Should KPIs and ratios like aircraft utilization and load factor be calculated in appendices right? 2. If my company leases aircraft to other companies and gain revenues this way, should i consider it under resource utilisation?
3. If i submit in november session, i can still use annual reports or i would have to adjust annual reports by including quarterly results?April 13, 2016 at 6:49 am #309950Thank you so much for the vast response @trephena. Here’s a question: how do i know that i am covering all the aspects when i am doing the financial and business analysis? What extra details would i have to look into when performing my ratios and business analysis? From the appendices that i made, westjet is performing great. It has lower revenue and costs in comparison to air canada definately (where air canada has its amounts in millions and westjet in thousands) but it is growing and growing. It has good financial stability. Air Canada on the other hand, even being the best airline in north america is not performing so well. It’s growing but not at the pace westjet is growing. Nor does it give dividends to its shareholders. I read the director’s message of both the companies. Air canada’s director wants to focus on lowering costs to gain high revenues and westjet’s director wants to focus on achieving targets and growing internationally. From google research, westjet is a better airline than air canada and preffered more. So what details would i have to put in to make my project stand out? How do i have to change my strategic direction? Can you guide me? I’d be really greatful!
April 12, 2016 at 6:27 pm #309921Okay so @trephena i just read your comment that it’s “best off choosing a company from a different partner alliance.” United Airlines and Air Canada both are alliances of Star Alliance which is not okay. I know I have mostly been asking “typical questions” but i have not been able to search for them here so i ask them where ever you have replied latest. (sorry for that)
So my question is: Can you tell me which is a good comparator for Air Canada then? Can i use Lufthansa or United Airlines (which are both member of star alliance) as comparator for Air Canada or i should use KLM to compare it with Air Canada?
I was almost done with the project till your guidance moved me. So i don’t want to change my main company which is Air Canada. what should i do?April 12, 2016 at 5:12 pm #309916so to quote @nobu again, would united airlines be okay to use with air canada?
April 12, 2016 at 1:19 pm #309874I get what you’re saying @trephena but again i wonder that how come Air Canada is compared everywhere with WestJet. if they are not competitors, why compare them? if you search, everywhere Air Canada is compared with WestJet and that makes me question why WestJet cannot be compared with Air Canada. Their mission statement is different which is “Connecting Canada and the World” but currently Air Canada is aiming at lowering their costs as their costs are increasing and their profit margins are not as high compared to other companies including WestJet. whereas WestJet is performing great and expanding their business slowly.
April 12, 2016 at 6:34 am #309808Hi, i want to know that in T8, I chose a company that has consolidated f/s. In my financial AND business analysis, where do i have to explain the effects of subsidiary eg in what areas and how to mention subsidiary issues?
April 12, 2016 at 5:52 am #309798@traphena, thank you for your reponse, however i have doubts about choosing easy jet and ryan air because both have different year ends and i don’t want to put myself in that situation.
Just like @nbobu asked, why aren’t Air Canada and Westjet good comparators? I see many websites comparing them and there is alot of comparative information available online. Why do you think they are not good companies?April 12, 2016 at 5:48 am #309797Hi @traphena,
I have two concerns:
1. I downloaded 2 different harvard style referencing guide and both explain different ways of referencing websites. For instance in one, the emphasis is on writing only the surname of the author in citing as well as in referencing. Eg if the name is John Legend. They are telling to just refer as (Legend, YEAR) and the other guide is explaining to use the first name as well when referencing. Are these both guides correct? Which one should i be following?
2. If the annual report is for the year 2013 and it got published in 2014, do i have to cite the publish year or the year to which the annual report belongs? when citing, will i use (ABC, 2013) or (ABC, 2014).April 12, 2016 at 4:34 am #309794If i use operating margin and net margin and ignore gross profit margin because no wider information is available, is that okay? Also i’m not able to find inventory days or payable days ratios due to lack of information on these in the annual report. What alternative ratios should i use?
March 21, 2016 at 6:37 pm #307254@trephena Can you guide me? I am planning to finally take Air Canada and Westjet after alot of research that took the whole day. I am really confused about my companies. Please guide me.
March 21, 2016 at 12:12 pm #307236Hi, can i use Air canada with westjet as it’s competitor?
March 21, 2016 at 11:58 am #307235Also i don’t want to take risk using a company where i can have issues regarding currency or year end issues, can anyone please help me with who can be a domestic competitor for Ryan air or easyjet or british airways?
March 21, 2016 at 10:41 am #307228thank you for your guidance. I just want to be more sure of what i’m doing:
if i choose British Airways and Easyjet, BA has december as it’s year end and easyjet has september. Both are UK based and there isn’t exactly too strong of differences in rules or economic situation. In my limitation analysis, what would be my explanation of how i overcame this if i choose not to make changes?also, they both have consolidated f/s. is that fine if i compare their consolidated f/s?
March 21, 2016 at 9:53 am #307222also about year ends* all ryan air, BA and Easyjet have different year ends. i’m really confused.
March 21, 2016 at 9:53 am #307221Hi, i want to know that can British Airways be used with Easyjet as it’s competitor for thesis? i was confused that Easyjet is a low cost company and even though british airways focus on maintaining low costs but i wasn’t sure if i could use easyjet as it’s competitor.
Also, if i choose to focus on Ryan air and use Easyjet as it’s competitor, i was confused about the difference in currencies and how to deal with that. Since everything would be dealt in euros if i choose Ryanair, so i would have to convert all the calculations of Easyjet into euros at current rate or what? Also about year ends
March 4, 2016 at 12:06 pm #303418That was helpful but it still confuses me. Wasn’t the cost to sell given to find out fv-cost to sell of the asset? Because that’s how it’s usually done. When we sell, we usually find profit using Disposal proceed minus Carrying amount but since the asset is not on carrying amount, why don’t we just minus fv-cost to sell which is $15.1 from the disposal proceeds?
