You don’t have to download anything………………………….. read this post it will help you a lot https://opentuition.com/topic/harvard-referencing/
June 5, 2014 at 10:00 pm #174455I am stunned to read the comments. I passed P5 in June 2013 “First Attempt” Thank God!
The paper was tough but the passing rate was good. If you have attempted at least 80% (Quality is must) then I don’t think there is anything to worry about.Best of luck to all of you!
May 20, 2014 at 11:41 pm #169747May 15, 2014 at 8:57 pm #168955I couldn’t find the paraphrasing point in the info pack so I referenced the source at the end of the paragraph once. I just did that because it looked nice and saved my words LOL however I was confused about it is correctness.
So now I am glad to know that it is an acceptable style! 😀
May 15, 2014 at 8:41 pm #168953@trephena all my excel work is on one excel file but on different sheets named as
Appendix A
Appendix B
Appendix C
Appendix DInfo on all 4 sheets is interlinked through formulae which is why I can’t use separate Excel files for each of them. I have even mentioned these Appendices in the content page to avoid confusion.
Will it be fine to use one Excel file with different sheets in this case?
May 9, 2014 at 2:08 am #167990All those who will be submitting rap in the last days please make sure you have the logins for the OBU submission account. This advice may sound stupid to all the smart folks here but it is a really useful advice for the dimwits like me :p I forgot my password twice. OBU support team will be really busy in the last days so make sure you have the correct logins now.
May 1, 2014 at 3:01 am #166966@bassaniobroke Please keep sharing the top tips! 😀
April 29, 2014 at 11:22 pm #166818@trephena and @bassaniobroke – Doing nice work here. I haven’t gotten anything to ask as your posts answer everything! 😀
April 25, 2014 at 2:11 am #166209@trephena and @SalahUddin – thank-you! 😀
@acnca – to me your explanation is quite unclear and confusing… I would prefer something like this:In FY12 the company’s performance rose by 23% but it deteriorated in the next year – FY13 because….. (The graphs and tables are good ways to present trends and movements – use words to explain the reasons for change in the performance)
That is my opinion, the experts over here always have great ideas to share 🙂
April 24, 2014 at 2:31 am #166057@trephena – The re-written paragraph is awesome! – Many thanks 😀
* Should this be “contributing to the subsequent 20.5% increase in finance cost” ???
The flow that I am trying to build is:
Circular debt crisis caused the working capital management issues that compelled the company to borrow funds that ultimately raised the finance cost by 20.5%
How will I add (See Appendix A, part D for calculations) in the reference list?
As for your last suggestion; I second that!.. but I don’t know any fellow student who could literally help me in spotting out areas to improve or advise as I study online and that’s what I have been doing for past 4 years. I do however have a mentor who is always too busy…so it’s just me who has to deal with it.
My 60% confusions have been resolved on OT and you’ve been a great help 😀
April 24, 2014 at 1:27 am #166055Keep posting 😀
OT Rocks my Socks!
April 23, 2014 at 1:16 am #165951Yes all my graphs are in the text and are properly referenced – Appendices just have the financial statements and calculations.
“(and then it would be ok just to say ” see Appendix A part D for calculations” just once)” – this is exactly what I wanted 😀 I am going to add this at the end of each paragraph.
Thanks!
April 22, 2014 at 11:36 pm #165944@trephena I feel kinda relieved thanks 🙂
I have a question for you regarding referencing. Following is the piece of my analysis:
” Despite the strong earnings the Interest Cover declined from 2.88 to 1.10 times in FY11. The reason for this decline was the finance cost which rose by 20.5% (Appendix A, part D) as a result of the short term borrowings that rose substantially by 88.5% (Appendix A, part D) in order to meet the working capital requirement in the circular debt crisis (Reuters, 2011). PBIT rose by 7.4% only (Appendix A, part D) which was not as high as the finance cost therefore this impacted on the interest cover. ”
1) From 2.88 to 1.10 times in FY11 – Should I reference the actual ratios? I believe I shouldn’t as the graph at the start of the analysis has these figures already and is referenced. Please correct me if I am wrong.
2) When a paragraph has 3 to 4 percentages, adding a reference for each of them give an impression of over referencing and eats up the words non productively (in my opinion :p ). I am over the word limit just because of this, I feel that there should be some way for referencing 2 or more movements in a sentence or paragraph.
Please advise how to deal with this.
April 20, 2014 at 6:17 pm #165753Nice – I am too broke to resist any unnecessary nasty shock 😀 I thought it works 10/10 and would help me to detect all those sentences which need to be rewritten to avoid plagiarism. So now I would prefer going though ever paragraph twice as I have gotten plenty of time.
April 19, 2014 at 10:27 pm #165663My project is almost ready and am thinking of using Turnitin to check it for plagiarism. Though I have been very careful about copy-paste issue while writing the report, still I want to be assured that my RAP is 100% free of plagiarism.
A question for all the passed fellows out here; Is it worth it? 😀
April 14, 2014 at 5:11 pm #165275Thanks a lot – that helps 🙂
April 14, 2014 at 1:23 pm #165263@SalahUddin all right thanks for confirming this 😀
It would be really helpful if you could correct my understanding on the following. I am finalising all the references but I have gotten very confused after seeing different sources explaining Harvard referencing system.
ANNUAL REPORT
In text citation: (ABC, 2013)
I also want to add the page # of the annual report to be more specific, should I add it here or in the list?
As well in the info pack pg 58 it’s written “For several documents by the same author published in the same year, use (a,b,c): e.g. (Watson, 2009a)”
Does this apply to the annual reports too, since I’ve used annual report reference a lot of times so for the alphabetical sequence should I use a,b.. ?In reference list: Should I add a pdf link or link of the section of website which has the annual reports?
Last thing – All the figures/percentages used in the analysis are explained in the excel sheet (appendix). So I have added a note at the start of the part 3 that “please refer appendix for all the numerical figures, tables and graphs.”
This is to save my words, will this work?April 14, 2014 at 12:08 pm #165258@SalahUddin I saw that here https://libweb.anglia.ac.uk/referencing/harvard.htm
That is not right? Now I am confused as I have used the same approach in my rap :0April 14, 2014 at 12:45 am #165234@randy yes webpage should be referenced
In text citation = (Bloomberg, 2014)
In the list = Bloomberg. 2014. CME Gave High-Frequency Traders Peek at Market, Lawsuit Claims. [ONLINE] Available at: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-04-13/cme-gave-high-frequency-traders-peek-at-market-lawsuit-claims.html. [Accessed 14 April 14]April 11, 2014 at 12:04 am #165000Well I heard they deduct some marks for this. So I would suggest you to use ball pen and practice more to improve your writing. Each mark counts so don’t risk!
April 9, 2014 at 1:12 pm #164870Yeah I wasn’t satisfied with this approach. Thanks
Here is another one that could be used for referencing in the “References List”
April 8, 2014 at 8:26 pm #164803April 8, 2014 at 6:30 pm #164799@NEENA I am also disappointed with this so called Mentorship…. I’m having a rough experience with my mentor. He says he won’t spoon feed me and I don’t want him to do that at all but he himself is so confused, he has wrote learn the info pack and he quotes me the rules…. not exactly advising me how I should deal with the problem.
I just figured out that all his students have worked on the same organisation in the past years and he advised me to use the same one which I unfortunately did and now I am scared that what if OBU board raise an objection on this????
My message to all the mentors: “If you can’t guide then don’t misguide at least”
April 8, 2014 at 2:03 am #164688Have you followed the alphabetical or Numeric referencing? Can we use mix of both, something like this:
In the text: (1-XYZ LTD, 2011)
In the list: (1- XYZ LTD (2011) Annual Report & Accounts, pp.21-23. [Online]. Available at: https://www.nbplc.com/investor_relations.html (Accessed 15 March 2014)
Please advise if you know.
April 8, 2014 at 1:59 am #164687I didn’t think of having a separate doc for references and bibliography. Your idea sounds nice.
Can I get your email please? I need a little advice regarding word count and referencing. I am not at all satisfied with my mentor. - AuthorPosts
