September 9, 2018 at 6:54 am #472399Q1 – Took mainly my time. I concentrated first on theory parts. Left calculations when time was finished allocated to Q1.
About Q2 : was a nice surprise. but I had only Hour to finish Q2 & Q3 – 30 mins each.
In Q2: As far I remember, they asked for financial review and Business aspect review. Quickest way to do was to calculate change ( increase/ decrease ) in three years for Revenue, net profit, gross profit, . Debt to equity ratio. Increase in EPS , Share price, Cash equivalents and Current assets. Increase in revenue by product etc.
The companies financial performance seems better as it showed increase. However for some reason Cash was decreasing in line with PAT increase. I.e. As remaining Cash goes into Cash reserves generally.
Working Capital was improving as current assets seems to reduce, because it looks like debtors were being paid.
Lastly the institutional investor concern can be valid, as she seems more concern about business aspect of company. i.e. continuous growth of product line, such as P3 – Product lifecycle future strategy. Although CEO said they have competitive edge product, but no external market research to back it up.

Q1 A – Strategy drift, was tricky. I analysed the performance from 2007 to 2017 for each table provided and commented on it.
As far i remember they provided breakdown of sales by sales mode: BookShop. Internet intermediaries, ABC own website. Another table gave breakdown in there high selling area vs ABC accumulated sales.
There some key trends and strategy drift : People were moving from traditional old ways of buying to internet sales, that is why Internet sales increased from 30% to 68% via Internet Intermediaries.
However regardless of sales increase, the revenue of ABC did not improved. Reason could be discount sales or charges paid to Internet Intermediaries.
This clearly shows strategy drift and ABC need to move towards the development of its website own website to capitalise on changing requirements of customers. Need for more E-Marking led strategy.
2. Analyse the differences in strategy when old CEO (Robert Hart) in position and after takeover by Venture Capitalist ( Strategy Lenses )
CEO ( Robert Hart ) : Strategy Experience – Old school guy army guy, had practical experience there fore hired people from same background.
Vs BV Venture capital came with : Ideas and Design and experience as well in turnaround of Publishing business but not actual related to real life army experience like Robert hart and passion like him. BV Venture were more profit focused. vs Robert hart continued doing what he believed and enjoyed.
3. Discuss the critical success factors and key performance indicators in relation takeover from venture capitalist
Linked Mission statement with CSF and KPIs of Venture capital and provided comments why it was important
4. Define mission statement, how it can impart value. Discuss how integrated reporting can explain the objectives in mission statement
Defined Mission statement, Purpose, Value, Policies etc linked with VS Capital and steps taken by them and how it will impact challenging demands of Market ABC operates. Explained Integrated reporting as it cover all value added activities of business and compared to corporate reporting with limited focus, and gave final comments to some up.

December 6, 2017 at 7:15 pm #421253Same here Kevin. I mentioned too much emphasis on economy n efficiency was effecting effectiveness. Therefore patients around 1536 were re admitted as compared to 300 national average. Oranisagion need to have balance approach in order to satisfy 3Es n achieve the objectives mentioned.

A) – Benefits n usefulness of Risk n Uncertanity Analysis followed by PEST analysis of risk organization facing n how to diversify it if possible.
B) General comment to chose option 2, As shareholders were high risk takers n Board was risk averse. Hence option two was medium. As option 1 was low risk n option 3 was too risky.

A) Discussed Benefits of non financial reporting information for non profit organization in line with organization mentioned in exam.
B) 3Es Analysis – value for money . Efficiency , Ecomomy n effectivess by comparing and analyzing information provided in Apeendix . There was a question in BPP revision kit around it.
C) Organisation was following budget constrained style, as actual Doctors salaries od 3.65m same as budgeted. At expense of bad service provided. That’s why it had implications. Delay in customers, 1568 repeated customers etc .

A) balance scorecard, I wrote about brief overview of balance scorecard, further as far I understand. Balance scorecard is balance because it addresses financial and non financial measures such as innovation and customer perspective. It suited to industry in question. Because they operated in competitive n dynamic market. Where key to succes was innovation and customer satisfaction rather than merely financial objectives. Hence balance scorecard address theses concerns.B) practical implementation challenges of balance scorecard.
IT infrastructure
Culturtural awareness
Staff training
Project lead to oversee the successful implantation of balancescorecard implementationD) commented on performance measures chosen in Appendix one, if they address the reporting requirements at strategic level monitoring and control.
C) I think was about implementation of balance scorecard –
Comments on usefulness of measures selected for
Financial prospective
Customer prospective
Internal measures.Just general analysis if it fit the purpose in line with company objective, industry n future monitoring and control.

In Q4 – Part A – As far i remember the examiner asked Evaluate how performance of New Tax division will be improved by introducing reward system.
I linked it with mission statement – it was mainly broken down in three Headings as below:
To be top firm
Have Skilled Staff
Profitable and get businessI Analysed each sub heading that current system does not sufficiently reward and encourage staff to achieve aim of business. The implementation of reward system with ( examples provided ) will improve the performance of company and it will achieve the aim of business.
Part B) Evaluate new rewards system introduced by Firm for Tax division
I Evaluated ( Good/ Bad comments ) new reward system and compared it with mission statement
New reward system was direct measure of To be top firm and contained reward for staff to gain new business.
But they did not have any measure for improving skills of Staff.
As Tax firm nature of business depends on skilled staff. If they cannot invest in improving skills of staff. they will lose out on every thing ( i.e. profit, market share etc )
I hope examiner considers it.

Q1. A. Incorporation Tax computation. we were required to calculate NIC and IT computation, based on taxable profit and tax liability provided ? Dates of payment i.e 31 Jan following year.
B. CGT, Before marriage chargeable for home transferred. As both were UK domiciled and resident. ( Higher rate of CGT as wife in Higher Tax band.
No Entrepreneur relief available.
After marriage i.e. end of 2016 – No CCG and IHT
