    I managed to get 48 marks (wounder!) last year when I only studied for F8 from the time I got in the house from the F7 exam the day before up until the early hours of the morning (work was hectic and I was in the office evenings and weekends leading up to the exam) so I’m sure you’ll manage it with all the effort you’re putting in. I’m resitting it tomorrow having done a bit more this time around and am fairly confident. I also prefer numerical papers, but at least this one is mainly common sense (and less memorising details like F4).
    Just remember to set your risk/recommendation answers out nicely in a table and avoid using “check” when describing substantive procedures (use “inspect”, “inquire”, “re-perform” etc as if you were giving someone clear instructions) and you’ll be grand.

    Good luck!

    Question 1:

    This is a ‘simple discount’ question.

    The discount is 1/99 = 1.010101% over a period of 25 days (40 – 15)

    To turn it into a yearly rate, if r is the yearly rate then 1+ r = 1.010101^(365/25)
    r = 0.1580 or 15.80%

    Hi John – I think I am doing something wrong here as I get 0.1474 for 1+r! What’s up with that then?

    Glad most people had the same blank where it came to the Causation question! Thought I had negligence down to a t but apparently not!

    I think I did swimmingly on the contract and legal structure ones, so hopefully the few marks I pick up on the questions I wasn’t particularly confident on will be enough to take it up to a pass mark. Fingers crossed!

    Incidentally – is it necessary to know the section numbers of the various Acts?

    Tell me about it! It’s third time lucky for me with this exam, although the first two times were way back under the old syllabus (just reluctantly started studying again after several years’ break due to pressure at work to do so!) and I only failed by 2 or 3 marks and optimistically believe I’m much better prepared now than I was then (mainly thanks to your fantastic lectures!) so fingers crossed I can do it this time – just going to go in and get it done!

    Thanks again!
