Dear John Moffat,
Please what will be the best question practice strategy and technique and exam techniques and strategy to getting a very high potential prize-winning score in AFM after completing your lecture videos and notes for June or Sept 2020. Which do you think I should write? June 2020 or sep 2020 that will enable me enough time to understand and practice well without rushing and feeling pressured before and during the exam?
many thanks
April 17, 2019 at 7:32 pm #513300Hello,
Thank you for your response. Having said that, as we are in April now, is there still enough time for me to complete the syllabus and practice as many questions as I can? I have started studying and I have a few standards to go. Havnt touched anything Group related yet.
Secondly, after completing the syllabus study, what is your best advice on practicing questions and exam strategy and technique on the best way to pass.
Thanks for your contributions. Looking forward to your response.
April 16, 2019 at 8:13 pm #513150Please what is the best approach to studying for the exam?
Study each chapter or standard and then practice questions on that area till I finish the syllabus?
Or finish the syllabus first, and then practice questions after?
So many resources to use as well with less time to go through them.
The thing is I tend to forget somethings after going through the whole syllabus and then practice questions after. It tends to stick better if i study each chapter and then practice questions on that chapter till i finish the syllabus then do general question practice but the issue with that strategy is that it is time consuming and I struggle with finishing the syllabus and end up falling short due to that. we all know that ACCA exams cover the entire syllabus. Please what is your best advice.
April 16, 2018 at 1:38 am #446996just the allowances and rates … all other rules remain the same.. but i get your point, you have to get new materials and revision kit for practice questions

August 11, 2016 at 11:48 am #332682Hello John,
The introductory video on the F5 page does not have content that reflects the new f5 exam format. Can you please kindly update this to help students with the awareness of the new format.
Many thanks
June 9, 2016 at 12:00 pm #321423I feel exactly the same, but all the same, let us hope for a good result come July 18
February 1, 2015 at 10:02 pm #224752Hello John,
I came across this comment below, please could you kindly clarify?
‘Hi, i understand that you loose 0.5mark for wrong answer but you get rewarded for the correct working and formula, however the 0.5mark lost, is it on the final wrong answer or wrong answer at every level get 0.5mark deducted provided the workings are correct’

December 3, 2014 at 11:24 am #216762Please could you help explain why the answer to this question is D and not A.
In a business carried on as a partnership, which one of the following is not an automatic ground for the dissolution of the firm.
a. lapse of time where the business was created for a fixed period of time.
b. bankruptcy of a partner
c. death
d. insanityDecember 2, 2014 at 2:17 pm #216025Please what about the lecture videos and course notes. Do you suggest I go through those as well? Or I shouldn’t bother? Just practice like you said?
December 2, 2014 at 2:15 pm #216023Hello Mike,
Thanks for taking out time to explain and help with a breakdown for me.
Yes, I do have Bpp revision and exam kit that contains multiple choice questions as well. But how can I access the 200+ mcqs on the website?
Lol @ ‘google it’ and ‘just a sandwich for lunch’ (if I can survive on just a sandwich for 5days… lool…). it seems feasible. I will start right away.
I feel more comfortable and motivated now.
Please where can I access the mcq on the website?
Many thanks Mr Mike.
December 2, 2014 at 9:10 am #215774Dear Mike Little,
I was wondering if you could help me with some informed and experienced suggestions. Here is my predicament:
I had started attending lectures at a tuition provider as well as listen to some of your lectures and also almost finished the syllabus but i stopped listening to the lectures and reading f4 because i was studying only f4 and preparation for f5 was suffering.
Now that f5 is over and with just one week to the f4 exam, going back and looking through what i had studied in the past is looking strange. do you think i can still listen to all your lectures and practice as well with less than one week to the exam? considering the fact that i had studied before and have an idea of the topics in the syllabus.
I really want to be confident going into the exam and doing really well because i like F4 and it is interesting. Please help, what would you suggest?
Many thanks
November 19, 2014 at 9:55 am #211215Hello John Moffat,
Please how did you come about the decision to make or buy products x,y,z in example in the chapter covering short term decision making. I understand the ranking, but how do you get the savings per kg as well as the units to make or buy?
Thanks in anticipation of your response.

November 11, 2014 at 12:50 pm #209082Hello John Moffat,
Please could you explain the benefits of life cycle costing for pricing, performance managment and decision making. This is part of a life cycle costing past question for December 2012.
What also is the likelyhood for such a question to occur in the exam? or questions testing lifecycle
November 4, 2014 at 6:20 am #207600Dear Mr Moffat,
Thank you for your response, will ask in another forum later.
Many thanks for your advice and your comments.
November 2, 2014 at 4:16 pm #207279Hello John Moffat,
Apologies it has taken this long to respond to your message. Thank you for your response and I am pleased you are pleased about my success in my previous exam and your concern for my next exams in December.
I have already registered and paid for the December exams and currently attending lectures at a tuition provider. I have no doubts that open tuition lectures and lecturers are one of the best and experienced out there and have been proven by the comments from successful candidates including myself.
However, that being said and with a few days less than one month to the F5 exam in December, although I have been preparing and attending lectures, I am concerned I might run out of time and not complete or cover the entire lecture videos and practice questions on open tuition before the exam day. Please what do you suggest and advice. I am getting increasingly concerned as the day comes closer because I am currently struggling with most topics and time is running out.
I trust you can help with a plan that will ensure my success in the exam come December.
Once again, many thanks to you and the rest of the open tuition team.
October 23, 2014 at 3:15 pm #205633Hello John Moffat,
I want to say a big hearty thank you to you and other members of the open tuition team. I took the f2 paper based exam in June and the f3 computer based today and passed both exams studying with open tuition materials and bbp exam kit
Just to add:
To my utmost surprise, in paper f2, there was a full question in section b on time series analysis, trend, actual, seasonal and similar areas. I was able to apply some common sense and logic beacuse although i studied that area of the syllabus, i didnt really concentrate neither could i remember. there were also lots of variance questions ad well as marginal and absorption consting questions. was soooo nervous at the end of the exam before i ended the exam to get my scores.
I am writing f4 and f5 in december. attending lectures and using the bpp study text as well as revision kit, adding open tuition to the list of resources to use and hope to be veryy successful in the december exams come february 2015.
Thank you once again Mr John Moffat, your lectures are clearly explained, easily unnderstood and you respond to any questions students have no matter how often it is been asked, coupled with a great sense of humour.
Very much and very well appreciated!
Keep up the good work and hope to hear more success stories open tuition has helped with.
August 24, 2014 at 9:35 am #192126This is to say many thanks to Mr John Moffat and the Open Tuition team, I passed my F3 exam. I appreciate all your efforts

June 9, 2014 at 8:47 pm #1755471. Please how do I handle the the issue of shares made by the company on the 1st of April in this question?
On Jan 1 2013, the capital structure of Q company, a limited liability company is
Share Capital: (1,000,000 shares of 50c each): 500,000
Share Premium: 300,000On April 1st, 2013, the company made 200,000 50c share at $1.30 each and 1 July made a bonus issue of 1 for every 4 in issue at that time using the share premium account. What are the balances on the accounts after the bonus issue?
Do i use only the 200,000 shares issued on 1st April? or 1,000,000 or a deduction or addition of both. I have tried different approaches but still not getting it.
