Passed the RAP on Topic 8 with Irwin from The Learning Luminarium as my mentor.
Many thanks to Irwin for helping me throughout the process and guiding me towards success.
Also, many thanks to Open Tuition for recommending quality mentors like The Learning Luminarium.
May 1, 2017 at 7:25 am #384406Hi,
I am not sure what is the correct way to reference the annual reports of Emirates, since author is not clearly mentioned.
Can someone please help with an example of in-text citation and bibliography from the link below:
https://www.emirates.com/in/english/about/annual-reports.aspx ==> How to reference the annual report of 2015/16
EDIT: I tried out the following. Any comments if this is correct / acceptable?
(Emirates, 2016)
Emirates (2016). Emirates Annual Report 2015-16. [Online]
Available at: https://content.emirates.com/downloads/ek/pdfs/report/annual_report_2016.pdf
(Accessed 10 Mar 2017).Thanks and Regards

Not necessarily although it is a possibility – is it net revenue however that is lower? As that would mean the operating margin was lower than previously i.e. the. costs were higher. You might have to examine the figures in more detail. Higher Passenger yield usually means more revenue per passenger and if there were more passengers it is odd total revenue is lower – what are the load factors like and the breakdown of revenue/ costs per available seat per kilometre (ASK)?Airlines try to maximise load factors as most of the costs of a flight are fixed and only a small proportion is variable,
You are correct. The load factor was also lower, and I managed to locate the distance flown. It was indeed lower due to cancellation of long-haul US routes.
Thanks Trephena
March 17, 2017 at 2:41 pm #378554Hi,
If an airline carries more passengers than previous year and its Passenger Yield is higher than last year, but its revenue is lower than last year, does this mean that the airline has flown fewer distance than last time?
Thanks

March 16, 2017 at 8:59 am #378437Thanks Trephena.
yes, I have cleared the whole SLS. Apart from the company, I am changing the business models as well, from PESTEL+Porters –> SWOT+PEST.
Trust this change also does not require resubmitting the Presentation???
March 16, 2017 at 7:49 am #378422Hi,
I am resubmitting my RAP in May 2017. In this attempt, I am doing the same Topic 8, but with different companies. Also, in my previous attempt, for business models I had selected PESTEL and Porters 5 forces. However, this time, I am doing SWOT and PEST.
My fail marksheet from last attempt gives me a Pass in SLS and Presentation.
I understand from reading the Info pack that I need not resubmit the SLS, but was not clear on the presentation part, if it has to be resubmitted or not.
Request your guidance for this query.
Thanks.
March 15, 2017 at 9:44 am #378319March 15, 2017 at 8:12 am #378306I am doing T8 with Emirates Airline as the main company.
Can you provide some insight into the areas I need to focus on when doing SWOT?
Particularly for weakness, since not much data seems to be available…
Thanks
February 26, 2017 at 9:10 am #374282Hi,
To add to my previous query, which are the typical ratios / numbers that needs to be analysed and explained from an Airline while attempting T8. A brief idea would help…
So far reading the forum, I could gather that inventory related ratios are meaningless… What I could not gather was which ratios to focus on, given the word count limitation..
Thanks a lot
February 26, 2017 at 8:15 am #374268Hi,
I am considering doing my RAP on Lufthansa and using Qantas for comparison.
Am I permitted to use airlines based in different countries for comparison?
Please advise.
Thanks
May 12, 2016 at 8:20 am #314716Hi,
While uploading Appendices to OBU, it asks for “Appendix Reference:” to be filled, while uploading the file.
Should this be “Appendix 1” or just “1”
Thanks!

May 6, 2016 at 1:10 pm #313919Hi friends,
My mentor is based in a different country than me. We have been communicating mostly on email and Whatsapp. We agreed to do the final presentation on Skype…
Looking through the SLS exemplars, as an answer to 1st question, we need to describe regarding meetings with mentor… however when no meeting has taken place, how to document it?
Please advice.
Thanks!
April 26, 2016 at 6:53 am #312683Hi,
Maybe this is a silly query… The title of Topic 8 as per the Information Pack is
An analysis and evaluation of the business and financial performance of an organisation over a three year period.
However, I have been advised to use either “analysis” or “evaluation” in the title. Is this advice correct? Or should I make the title as per Information pack by just replacing the company name and specifying the period.
Thanks!

April 5, 2016 at 11:18 am #309057Hi,
Is it advisable to do business analysis using PESTEL and Porter’s 5 forces for the airline industry?
I am based in India and there is immense competition between the airlines. Or should I stick with the standard PESTEL and SWOT?
Thanks

May 29, 2015 at 3:56 am #250061Thanks a lot Sir,
Just to clarify, if Q1A, is stretching from Page 1 to Page 2, I need to write on top of
Page 1 ==> Q1 A
Page 2 ==> Q1 A (continued)?
I am asking this basic query since it is the 1st ACCA written paper I am appearing for and have no idea about the writing trick.
Thanks again,
GBMay 27, 2015 at 5:46 pm #249635Hello,
Do each of part A, B and such of section B required to be started in a new page?
Like Q1 A on Page 1, Q1 B on Page 2 even if Page 1 was half empty. Also, if an answer stretches beyond 1 page, is there a need to write the question number on each page?
Eg, Q1A, stretches to 3 pages, at the start of page 2 and 3 some comment required regarding question number? Thanks,
GBMay 16, 2015 at 5:56 pm #246431Thanks Mike and welcome Sarah….
I would also like to thank Mike since I cleared F4 a month back with a 88 in CBE…
For what its worth, I used Mike’s videos and BPP Revision Kit….
Earlier I was reading BPP Study Text and was just not able to understand / grasp the whole contract law concept, till Mike made it easy as a breeze with his Godsend videos which I found to be extremely easy to understand as well as retain what I had learned…
God Bless…
