    Hi,

    well done on passing your exams. I think the previous advice on volunteer work would help you. If in the future you want to apply for the membership that can count towards your application. I have recently passed my exams and applied for membership.

    I think I will need to stay up to date in order to maintain this status, therefore demonstrate that I am going to events, read articles. I am working, however even in practice you cannot really be a guru in everything, at some point you will specialise.

    I will advice you to volunteer, maybe a part time job in finance and when you can, to move into a full time role.
    I am working as a finance analyst, and to be honest never had the experience to work with IFRS, group accounts, investments etc… therefore the membership should fill this gap (at least be aware).

    Maybe you will choose to give up that membership at some point, if let’s say you specialise in an area far away from finance. I see people in my organisation that are proud to be qualified accountant, even though their current role has nothing to do with that.

    But I think it will help you in the first few years after you passed your exam. I have updated my resume saying that I am ACCA Affiliate (explaining that my manager will approve soon my objectives) and believe me I receive more calls than ever. Good luck with whatever you decide.. 🙂

    I have applied today for my membership; So I guess in few days time my fee will show as due and I should pay it.

    I did pay the student fee for 2017; now as I am applying for membership, do you know if I will be asked to pay for half of 2017 and / or I will receive a refund for my student fee (half – year) ?

    What I cannot understand is how we can get our Qualification certificate. For me there are 2 things: 1 your qualification certificate (pass all exams, get experience and objective approved) and Membership. In my mind I can qualified but choose not to be a member; however in my job application I can say that I am acca qualified without being a member?

    All I have is an Affiliate certificate saying that I have passed all my exams ..anyway I will apply for the membership… but the whole process is not that straight forward..

    Many thanks..

    I passed my last exam in April this year; I have sent the invite to my manger to sign off my experience and also send her a document with my objectives; 1 month later and she said she saw something from acca and she will take the time to sign… it is so disappointing :(; I remind her twice, and I know she is busy but i did work hard to pass and really want that membership;

    also I think she won’t signed all the objectives, which is fair enough, but I told her to sign the once that she agrees with. And than we should discuss what work should i do to achieve the others.

    I have also told her that the 1st step is to sign my experience, but she is so perfectionist that she said she will review the objectives first..

    I am also applying for jobs and I think I will resign soon; I feel embarrassed in the same time that I asked her to take the time for me and I will leave; but on the same note I think this is her job too,and I hope she will sign before I leave the company..

    no idea how to go around it; I have 4 years experience in this company; I do want that membership. They have to sign it, right? not sure if they will sign all my objectives thought..

    it is partly my fault; I should have sign the experience after 36 months with them, and do the objectives, few each year. But I knew they are gold approved employer and I can claim most of them. She said everyone is applying via the non-approved schemes, as they cannot monitor each person.. 🙁 so they have that certificate for nothing;

    any ideas, help?

    Ellen, congrats on passing P4! For P5, yes there is no much theory. I did Q1 first without even looking at the others (not even in the reading time).. Than for all the others, I just open up a page or two for each q, listing the headings. Actually I did the same for Q1. Therefore while reading, I would decide if that para fits in q1a or b..so answering in the same time.

    If you have 16 marks, think 16 sentences. Short answers, this is 1 point (1 mark)..this is why it matters (another mark); if you give another reason you may get another mark. But I wrote really basic and short answers. I passed 1st time, and to be honest I did not even read the book. I went to past exam questions quickly and learn from there.

    Pay attention to the requirements. Most of the time you think you are asked to calculate ratios, but in fact, you need to analyse an existing report: too many kpi, is the report consistent, hoes help the reader..etc..so not calculating or interpreting the numbers! just coming up with the ideas to improve it and how it can help the stakeholders…

    Think you advice a client; they won’t pay you to repeat what it is in the q; Advice them and say why it matters, why they should follow your advice; somethings that adds value; This is what is it in the scenario, it impacts the company in this way. these are my suggestions and why you should follow. Don’t be afraid to write..if you are referring to the scenario, you will get the marks. There is no wrong or right answer as long as you answer the q and refer back to the scenario…
