I passed my RAP with A at my first attempt. Many thanks to Irwin (TLL) who guided me through the whole project. I decided to avail of TLL mentoring based on the testimonials and OT recommendation. This was the best decision that I could have taken.
I had never written a project before and I did not know how to start. I was very worry not to be able to pass my RAP but thanks to Irwin’s directions and support I gained self confidence and complete the project.
I am self motivated person, however understanding is important for me to be able to complete a task. This was not a problem for Irwin as I have never felt that I could not ask a question.
I was able to submit all my queries to Irwin who replied to my emails and clarified any doubts within 24 hours.
Irwin was very flexible when scheduling our meeting and this was important for me as having a full time job my availability was during the weekend or evenings.
During our meeting I was able to discuss any parts of the project that I was struggling with, Irwin was always ready to shared his point of view that helped me to see things from different angle. This improved my understanding and directed me during my research.
I would definitely recommend Irwin to everybody. Thanks Irwin for your patience and help.Gabriella

Thank you for your answer.
I have another questions. Is there any specific version of PowerPoint which is the requirement for the submission. I have my file save in PPTx which make the file smaller than PPT. Is PPTx accepted by the OBU?Thanks

May 8, 2018 at 1:20 am #450515Hi Trephena,
Sorry for another question but I am concerned about referring.
Could you please helpIn my spread sheet I create some graph from a report obtained on line as well as graphs created by using company financial and shareholder letter.
I provided all the links in the spreadsheet, however I did not included into the reference list. Do I have to do it?
Please note that financials are for the last 6 years as evaluating a ratio trend.
The shareholders letter are 24.. each per quarter
In relation to the report obtained by internet I initially refereed in reference list but than I though the only the references appeared in the report should be included in the reference list.
I am confuse.. Could you please help.
Thanks

May 7, 2018 at 3:23 pm #450469Hi Trephena
I am going to submit the RAP soon but I do not know if there are specific rules to follow.
I did Topic 18, so If I am correct I should have only 5 documentsRAP
Reference
SLS
Excel file
Presentation (PDF)For this RAP I used the financials for preparing some graphs. All links are provided in the excel file (but not in the reference list) Do I have to submit a copy of them? As far as I know it is a requirement only for Topic 8.
I read a lot that excel file needs to be submitted in appendix.
I haven t seen the portal yet, so could you please help me to understand which documents need to be submitted in the appendix?
Do I have to upload the RAP separately? It might be a stupid question but I don t want to have any doubts while I am submitting the RAP
Thanks

May 7, 2018 at 1:21 pm #450456Hi Trephena,
Thank you for the clarification.
I had few more doubts that I wrote in different post. I hope you could help me to clarify them as well. thanks in advance for your support
As pictures have different reference style than article, if i use the same source of reference in the text it will be not fully correct in the reference list as the picture will be refer as an article or vice versa.
What should I do in this case? Use a,b,c
In relation point 4 I did not understand fully how I should treat FT article.
In my reference list I put the link that I used to access to the article, but for some reasons it is not possible to access to the same article from the same link unless you subscribe to FT. My concern is that the examiner will not be able to get the article from the link unless they search it online by title.
Should I leave my reference list as I did?
Thank you very much for your help
Kind Regards

May 7, 2018 at 11:31 am #450430Hi Trephena,
Sorry for the other email.
I have a similar situation when I refer to the company website but getting information from different parts of the website which have different link.
If I use the same reference for both, examiner will be able to reach the correct source for one but not for the second. That why I use the letter a/b/c to be able to link the reference to the correct URL.
Is that correct, or is there a different way how to deal with this case
Thanks

May 7, 2018 at 11:22 am #450429Hi Trephena,
Thank you very much for your response.
In relation to the point 1 I still have a question.
It is clear that the same document from the same author used twice it should be refer have the same reference in the text and in the reference list.
However picture have different reference style than article, therefore if i use the same source of reference in the text it will be not fully correct in the reference list as the picture will be refer as an article or vice versa.
What should I do in this case?

Apologies for adding another post.
I used a Financial Times article found with free access online, however whenever you use the link to get back to the article, Financial Times requires for being a member. It did not due at the first stage.
However if you search the article by title on google then you are able to read the article.
How should I refer this article? As online or a paper newspaper article. If second option I do not have the page number to provide. Thanks in advance for your help.

May 6, 2018 at 9:57 am #450303Hi Trephena,
Thank you very much for your clear reply.
I have another questions. It is not completely clear to me how to refer the picture and checking online I found different reply.
Referring Picture
For example
1) If I have to refer a picture that I take from the same article/website where I got the information and no data of source is available for the picture, I refer the picture with the name of the article author or website. However since I use the same source twice I differentiate them using abc… For example XYZ (2006a) for the article in the text and in the reference list treated as article and XYZ (2006b) for the picture and in the reference list treated as image.
2) if I take the picture in the website/article has the reference I will use them, which refer should I use if I found a source like : Source: Thomson Rueters; CapIQ; Other publicity available source, Strategy& analysis PWC?
Could you please help on this or if you could suggest a website which you consider reliable where I can refer to.
I am very confused how to do so.Second source information
In addition, I have to refer a second source of information as I could not access the original and I could not find any other similar information anywhere else.
Is that correct if I write in the test something like below
Muller and Hart, 1987 criticize…. (cited in Bertram 1997)
whereas In the reference list I state only Betram 1997 and not Muller and Hart
Really appreciate you help

May 5, 2018 at 11:07 am #450209Hi Trephena,
Apologies for a second email, I could have included this one in the previous one.
I have to quote a website with Copywrite data is 2011-2017. I put 2017 as a date of the website. Is this the correct way, or should I indicate the range (2011-2017)
Thank you for your help

Could you please help me to clarify whether the Middle name initial needs to be included into the reference list?
I checked online and I got different answers.
For example, the author name is Eric H. Shaw
In the text I put Shaw, (Year) whereas what should I put in the reference list
1) Shaw, E.H. (Year)
2) Shaw, E (Year)Thanks and Regards

November 6, 2017 at 6:31 pm #414591Hi Trephena,
I have verified my eligibility for submitting the RAP, register as mentee and chose my mentor. Ready to start to prepare my RAP to submit in May 2018.
Does the registered account created for the mentee can be used to submit the RAP?
If not, do I have to create the new account before starting my RAP or I can do later on.Thanks and Regards

October 31, 2017 at 9:26 pm #413905Hi Trephena,
I am still valuating with Topic should I base my RAP and when I read the forum about topic 18 “Review of Marketing Strategy of and organization and its effectiveness” and I found this topic interesting but a challenging at the same time as I do not have any marketing background
Said that, my concern is whether I will be able to prepare a RAP about an argument which I have never studied for.Additionally, can I choose any of the company for topic 18 or I have to select one of the companies from the company sector provided in the information Pack(as per topic 8)
Unfortunately, my first choice (Topic 6) is being still pending as my company has not provided their approval to access to primary and secondary information
Topic 8 became a bit challenging when come to choose the company to evaluate. For topic 18 I was thinking of evaluation Ryanair marketing strategy, but I have to consider whether the information can be available or not.
Thanks for your responseGabriella

October 27, 2017 at 3:16 pm #413416Hi Trephena,
Thank you for your response.
I hope my company can provide the authorization, however in the meantime I am considering another options in case I wont get it.With regard to topic 8: Can I use Boeing Company and compare with Airbus?
Do you think would it be too difficult? Thanks and Regards

October 26, 2017 at 4:39 pm #413322HI Trephena,
As I am considering the topic 8 in alternative to the topic 6 (if I wont be able to get the authorization from my company).
For topic 8 the OBU provide the industry sector where the company case study need to be selected from.
Then, I was wondering if I won t pass my RAP in May 2018 Submission period 36, do I have to change the company in my next submission to align it with the new industry sector requirement for the submission period 37 or can I still use the same company as case study.
Thanks and RegardsGabriella
October 26, 2017 at 4:23 pm #413316Hi Trephena,
Thank you very much for your clarification.
I have submitted the request to the management of my company in order to be authorized to access to either first or secondary information.
As soon as I have their feedback I can decide on the final topic.
GabriellaOctober 25, 2017 at 11:03 pm #413212Hi Trephena,
Thank you for your reply.
With regard the secondary data, I am not sure if the company will provide the statistics on absenteeism, staff turnover as well as the staff handbooks, staff policies on promotion and training ect. as I believe being very confidential information which might not willing to share. If it is the case that my company will only authorized me to carry out the survey but not use any source of secondary date (as above), would it be too limiting hence I should consider a different topic?
However, being a public company I might be able to get revenue per employee as well as other employee ratio.
I have already submitted the request to carry out the survey and the authorization has been asked
Thanks
Gabriella
October 25, 2017 at 2:57 pm #413159HI Trephena,
Thank you for your reply, things started becoming more clear.
Few more questions:Do you think that I have enough time to complete RAP for May submission.
I know that this depend on how much time I can spend on it. I am full time worker and I am not familiar with writing RAP.
I am willing to spend most of my free time on the thesis but I am still concern how long it would be take.Secondly, with regard to the topic 6 do you have any suggestion where I can find secondary information needed for the RAP?
Thanks in advance for your support
Best RegardsGabriella
October 24, 2017 at 4:26 pm #413069Hi Trephena,
I was thinking to prepare my RAP on topic 6.
I was wondering if I could use the company that I work for as a case study
As a primary source I was thinking of preparing a questionnaire to be sent out to around 100 people within the company (this will be only the accounting department)
The company that I work for has currently 7100 employee worldwide.
My questions are:Can I use the company that I work for as a case study
Can 100 employee (whole accounting department) being good enough to success in the RAP?thanks
Gabriella
