I have had some free time today so have been trawling through some threads. I’ve noticed Carl that you mentioned that you are a hiring manager. What do you look at when assessing an applicant with only practice experience? Are people like desirable to big companies? Although the majority of what I do is statutory related, my work is very varied (management accounts, assurance engagements, VAT), and I believe easily transferable. Will this keep me in good stead with potential industry roles?
November 6, 2014 at 11:12 am #207969Thanks everyone for your replies,
To answer Carl’s question, I have been working in accountancy for approx 4 years in a small practice. All of our clients operate under FRSSE so no experience to big clients. We do do a Statutory Audit but only one.
TBH I banged out my ACCA as it had been 2 years since my degree graduation so I was still in ‘pass exams’ mode if you know what I mean. I will be speaking to some recruiters today who seem to have found my details and try to get some more info.
I think I more inclined to move into industry so am having a think about that. In relation to why I am unsure about my pay is because I know I can leave for new ventures but don’t want to leave and then realize that it was not what I had hoped.

August 14, 2013 at 12:56 pm #137999Hi Matt,
I sat P1, 2 and 3 this June and passed all three while working full-time. It can definitely be done as long as you focus on the topics you need to know to pass and not get bogged down on the not often examined stuff.
I think you should do it.
March 12, 2013 at 3:15 pm #119715I would say 5 and 6 as 7 is best taken with other financial papers (f8 + 9)
March 12, 2013 at 3:05 pm #119712Can I ask why you studied both CIMA and ACCA? It seems a bit pointless to me.
February 12, 2013 at 2:37 pm #117574I think I’m gonna call them. When you go to their timetable it has only 3 days! https://www.bpp.com/professional-qualifications-course-details/d/professional-qualifications/ACCA/64 My friend went there before and said it is 10 days average. Anyway why is there brochure so wrong? Really strange that a provider of their reputation can be so vague in regards to their classes.
I’m only interested in the tuition part and thats what they have there. Look for yourself in the above link and see.
February 4, 2013 at 2:23 pm #114722I quite like the way its structured there but unfortunately I am based in London.
January 18, 2013 at 10:20 am #113847All of them!
December 28, 2012 at 11:15 am #111481What happens if you assumed it was an invitation to treat? I initially put the answer as an offer but crossed it out, it was still readable however so the examiner will see my thought process.
Will I get no marks at all?
December 28, 2012 at 11:12 am #109809To all those that worry about not filling in the shaded areas of the answer sheet, I did the same thing last sitting and was extremely worried. I phoned up ACCA and explained that I didn’t do this, they told me it’s not really needed at all so don’t worry you will not be marked down.
In regards to the guy without graph paper, you should have been provided, we all got ours at the beginning before exam commencement. If I was you I would have complained and I suggest you report the centre to ACCA. This could cost you the exam and why should you ask for paper? That would cost you precious time. Honestly, I would be PISSED if that happened to me.
December 4, 2012 at 9:36 pm #109781I thought I did good and it seemed fairly easy to me, However, I was shattered from studying all night and worrying about F9 so I don’t think I thought at all during the paper! It was like my body answered everything automatically!
Anyway F9 is the killer for me and I’ve not even started F4! Everyone should stop worrying, even if you think you did rubbish you may still pass. Good luck to all.
September 5, 2012 at 12:25 pm #90302My mum suggested I study for a Masters after my BA but the cost was ridiculous.
September 5, 2012 at 12:21 pm #10023770 marks means you’ve passed???
September 5, 2012 at 12:18 pm #94978Stop getting stoned lol.
Seriously, the best advice: Never give up. Maybe go in the exam with a different viewpoint, don’t put so much pressure on yourself and just think of it as another day in class. Don’t look around at what other people are doing. DO NOT spend more than 45 mins on qs 1, 2, 3! This is very important!
Lastly, one thing that helped with me is doing either q 1, 2 or 3 each day before work. This will improve muscle memory and when you get in the exam you won’t need to think, it will be automatic.
Good luck and I hope ypu pass this December. I am certain you will.
September 5, 2012 at 12:11 pm #101289I have to agree with you. I sat 3 exams in June back to back and still hav’nt recovered from the lack of sleep due to the routine. I have deep black bags under my eyes, I am dead serious!
August 30, 2012 at 10:16 pm #104654Switch to ICAEW! It’s a more prestigious qualification but way harder.
August 29, 2012 at 9:36 pm #104747Thanks Debbie & Taytarik. Unfortunately I forgot I posted this thread and already paid for the 3 exams. Appreciate your opinions but have decided on 3. Im going to stop everything, no going out, no boxing etc and just focus on passing 3!
I think I was a bit unclear as what ‘Uni’ was. I’m referring to where I study for ACCA, i.e my old Uni.
I’ve already taken 2 weeks off work for revision and am familiar with some concepts for f4 and f5 from Uni so wish me well!
June 29, 2012 at 11:40 am #101782I already have. It seems the syllabus is the same apart from the fact that relevant costing has a more prominence in the syllabus. I already have the latest F5 & F4 study texts (the modules I’m looking to sit in Dec) from BPP but cannot get used to them!
I much prefer Kaplan and Opentuition materials as they are straight to the point
and easier to grasp. I do not recommend BPP at all! Thanks for the quick reply btw.
