Forgot, my BIG thanks to OPENTUITION.
February 9, 2013 at 9:28 am #116642I have finally managed to pass with 51 only but at this point would have been happy with 50. I am now an Affiliate.
My message to those who failed this paper several times, please do NOT give up or change the subject. I stuck by it despite many failures on this paper only; I even thought about giving it all up and used to wake up with horrible failure feeling. Now I can look back and advice even if it’s only been a day since the achievement.
I think I only passed this paper because I did not let this final impossible (for me) paper take over my life, I took it easy this time after failing it a few times. I even went out a week before the exam. I am not saying the paper is easy but please don’t forget to enjoy.
All the best

OK guys, I will start drafting the letter on Tuesday, as on Monday I have to travel.
Any suggestions are welcomed!Could you please have him Clarify the situation on MIRR formula, why not provided, was that not a mistake on his part? We lost time looking for it back and front of the paper and then panicking. Further not only time but also must have lost a couple of marks on calculation plus few more marks on explanation of the outcome.
I managed to pass one of the hardest papers in my opinion P4, yet I can’t understand why I cannot pass P5. FYI, the MIRR formula was provided in P4 exam.
My message to you all is that there are no right or wrong ways of answering questions on P5, there are several models that can be used to get the same answer, but more importantly DID YOU UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION???? That is the issue here so let’s all get together and get this petition going.June 16, 2012 at 6:53 pm #98742I think ACCA should have a rule for when we are tested on lower papers or knowledge required from other P papers, that it should not carry more that 4-5 marks. Otherwise we are wasting time learning P5.
Can someone please tell me where the hell the article on Benchmarking is and when it was published as I have only seen on Performance Prism.
Also where can I find more information on Q1C, as this topic was not mentioned once in any of my P5 course or on revision.June 16, 2012 at 6:43 pm #98741@darthvader001 said:
OK, keep counting!!In order to be taken seriously, we need to be at least 25!

C U Next Tuesday, Alex Watt!I totally agree with previous comments that Alex Watt has to go. Where do I sign the petition? Seriously! He is not doing the ACCA’s reputation any favours at all. In fact I would say that he is damaging the reputation of the Association. The ACCA itself should seriously think about replacing him with P5 pass rates of 29%. Thats 71% of P5 students failing!! That is a very, very poor number, yet ACCA seems to think that it is not a problem. Well such low pass rates are a problem. It implies that ACCA students and specifically P5 students are pretty dumb and does not reflect well with potential employers with such low pass marks. An organisation with such a low pass rate indicates it is not very good at weeding out those students that do not have the intellectual level to take these exams. In reality we all know that we are not idiots and are a pretty intelligent bunch but Alex Watt makes us appear dumb.
Watt’s inability to ask a simple question in any P5 exam in plain English language is amazing. His questions are so ambiguous, yet he has the audacity to publicly state that ACCA students are effectively idiots that cannot read his questions properly, which justifies such low pass rates. Screw him..
I have taken this paper several times now under Mr Watt, and each time I was very confident of getting through because of the good level of knowledge of the P5 syllabus. BUT today was yet another example of this idiot, setting impossible questions to answer in just 3 hours. Whatever anyone else claims on this Forum, the questions today are not anything like the real world. Since when has an accountant in the real world got to produce so much accurate, detailed informative work in such a short space of time? Each question took ages to read before we even got to his stupid, ambiguous requirements.
I will not bother retaking this exam again – at least not until Watt is sacked. I needed just one paper to go and it looks like it is going to be P6 in December.
Alex Watt must go!
What do you mean by CU Next Tuesday??? Please fill us in on it. Tnx

Hey, maybe this is another person but there is an Alex Watt herehttps://www.linkedin.com/pub/alex-watt/b/5a9/469
Not sure as someone here has mentioned that Alex has got Physics background, but relly was hoping it was him!!
If its the same bloke, he left ACCA ??Huh ?
December 14, 2011 at 9:52 pm #91406Badly balanced questions-Question 1 was mainly on Risk. Please note we are traning to be accountants not risk analysts, not yet! This question should have been section B optional question and not a section A question as this can be seen as a specialised question.
Scenarios are not related to the “real world” and questions were not clear. In a real world if anything was not clear or explained properly I would clarify this with person requesting/setting the task and further more we would have more than just 3 hours to deal with one real life scenario together with team of people around to help you.
The exam did not test us on our knowledge, but instead placed us with impossible challenge. You seem to forget that we are students not FD’s of major investment banks, therefore we do not have the experience to draw from!
Questions were very random-did not give us any clue to any structure.
As this was/is my final paper I was very well prepared, but nothing would have prepared me for this sitting! P5 will not be recommended to anyone as it is like a loose cannon.
ACCA must get their act together as it’s becoming a joke!December 14, 2011 at 8:47 pm #91405December 13, 2011 at 2:42 pm #91397It’s all very well everyone complaining here, but do make sure that you complain to ACCA and report it to PQ magazine as it matters.
December 8, 2011 at 6:37 pm #91319I mean P4 not P$
December 8, 2011 at 6:36 pm #91318Hi just incase you are thinking abount changing your subjects after few attemps, my advice is not to. I passed P$ paper on my 5th attempt with 57 marks so there is hope!
I also found todays paper hard, infact I do not think this paper allows you to go indept with any of the scenario as simply there isn’t enough time and under pressure it is so difficult to think of KPI’s. I manage to do all the questions but could not add value to my answers due to lack of time.
So my question to you all is do the examiner want quality or quantity as both is not possible. I am sick of this examiner already, he is like the old P4 examiner where no body could pass as soon they sacked him…..oopps I mean changed him I passed.October 22, 2011 at 6:10 pm #87632Guys, just so that you are not all mislead P5 is not easy, non of the oiptional subjects are, please do not take them lightly!!! Have you seen the pass rate for P5??? I did do P4 and passed but manged to fail P5.
August 30, 2011 at 7:25 pm #85935I did did P4 and now passed
Quote:, but a very heavy paper & P5 is a stupid unpredictable paper the examiner cannot make his mind up on whether he wants quality or quantity. Good luck as all the papers at this level are difficult. Go with what you think you are good at as this way you will enjoy it as well.August 30, 2011 at 7:08 pm #86945…oh and one more thing, did anyone spot the stakeholders model of Power and Interest? I did but now can’t remember which question it was. If no one else spotted it then this is the reason why I failed!!?? Have I answered my own question, I wonder!
August 30, 2011 at 7:01 pm #86944Is the examiner after quality or quantatiy??? He wants you to cover all the questions, which I did and yet still managed to fail…….obviosuly he wants quality as well. So how come some one who misses out the whole question and still passess????
Wish the examiner makes his mind up as I am fed up!!!!!April 12, 2011 at 5:43 pm #80404I am resitting P5 and taking 2 day revision course with BPP. Can anyone advice me on the new topics that are transfered from P3 i.e. Quality & People, what exactly are we to know on People. Please help I studied P3 with Kaplan so what chapters are transfering??
