Thanks Kim, that does explain it.
Do you know if the pass rates per variant are listed somewhere? Perhaps not terribly important (after all the only thing that really matters to me is my own pass rate, which can only be 0% (a fail) or 100% (a pass)), but I’m just curious 🙂
October 30, 2025 at 12:46 pm #723392It just dawned on me to look at APM (which is also examined on the Wednesday and not a variant). Sure enough there’s capacity in the afternoon at the same location. So that confirms that ATX-IRL is a morning-only exam. For future reference if anyone has the same query.
October 30, 2025 at 11:22 am #723390I got a reply quite quickly this time:

Thank you for your email and for sharing your concern — I understand how important it is for you to secure your preferred timeslot.Regarding your booking of ATX?IRL (the Ireland variant of the ATX) for the December session, I have looked into it and can inform that you may be offered more than one time slot, but “the lower the number the earlier the timeslot in the day” and you may choose from what’s available at the time.”
Given that you were only able to select a morning slot, this could mean one of two things: either there was only the morning session allocated for your variant/region (which sometimes happens because variant papers and local centre/remote capacity may restrict how many start times are available) or the afternoon slot was offered but it had already been booked out by the time you selected.
Unfortunately, we cannot retrospectively release or guarantee an afternoon slot once the system shows only the morning option for your booking.
Slots for remote sessions are limited and once booked they are not routinely released back into general availability. Some students report that cancellations do happen (and occasionally new slots appear) but that cannot be guaranteed.
[/quote]Given that exam centre capacity is generally not an issue (based on the amount of empty seats I’ve seen at past exams) it’ll probably be indeed the morning slot.
October 29, 2025 at 2:58 pm #723388I’ve filled out the form now, and the confirmation email promises a reply within two days. I’ll wait and see if that’ll happen and if it does, that it’ll actually answers the question asked.
October 29, 2025 at 9:55 am #723385Thanks Kim, that would be helpful. However I can’t find the live chat option. Should it be on this page?
https://forms.accaglobal.com/contact-us-studentOctober 28, 2025 at 12:08 pm #723371Thank you Kim, for your reply. I was thinking the same thing, that there’s a limited audience in a small country like Ireland which also doesn’t span different time zones. But still worth the question, given my personal situation. I might have to ask my father-in-law to bring the children to school that day, and at least he doesn’t have to pick them up then, which he would have to do if I were to sit an exam in the afternoon.
ACCA is usually quite slow on getting back to queries, which is why I was hoping for a quick answer here 🙂
July 16, 2025 at 12:20 pm #718444Thanks John, I had hoped for a different reply and that my message was still hiding somewhere, it was a bit of an essay…
I guess the learning point to take away from this is to type it out in Word and then copy/paste it into the reply box.July 15, 2025 at 10:22 am #718416Good news! I can sit an exam in September.
The bad news that goes with it, is that it’s APM because I failed the June exam…
July 14, 2025 at 8:47 pm #71840644 at the second attempt, which is a 15 point improvement from the first one in December.
Try again in September, see if I can add on another 15 points.Coming up with those b*llsh*t answers in these exams is not my thing, just give me some numbers, that I can work with.
June 10, 2025 at 3:50 pm #717863I do self-study as well and as mentioned above I only discovered OT halfway through the preparation of my first APM attempt.
I just read Paula Byrne’s book, which I think is (given the subject) the easiest-to-read study book I’ve ever laid eyes on. I might have practiced some questions too, but I don’t think so because I also had to prepare for the other exam I was taking at the same time. My new employer (I changed jobs at the end of April that year) saved me on that one with giving me a few days off to study.
And yes I just found out about the twice-a-year when reading the syllabus the other day. Didn’t realise that as I was preparing for the TX-IRL June exam two years ago.
June 6, 2025 at 8:25 pm #717752Hmm reading through the syllabus it appears that ATX-IRL isn’t being examined in September.
Would have been helpful if the exam time table on the ACCA website would state that… - AuthorPosts
