    Hi
Both my companies have year ends in march 2014, so am I correct in presenting my topic as an analysis of their performance between the years 2012-2014 or should it be 2011-2014?
    Regards

    Hi Trephena
Question for part three: In the conclusions I have given a brief summary of the company’s overall performance and mentioned their current performance based on interim results, is that ok?
In the recommendations I am stumped. I have already recommended actions the company can take in the opportunities section of the SWOT. Shall I just repeat these? Also the company was already in the process of making these changes in the current financial year. What do you think?

    Hi Trephena

I have made an appendices folder in which I have included 6 Excel Documents (some have more than one graph and workings). Is this Ok? Does the marker open the folder etc and view each document?
Second: I would like to show the spread sheet formulae for two of these documents as evidence. can the marker see this as I can, when I go to ‘view formula’ on excel document or do I have to show this separately? If so please could you tell me how, and do I add this to appendices folder.
Do you convert these and all other files to Pdf etc before sending to OBU?

    Kind Regards

    Hi Trephena

If I put Morrisons 2011 followed by the URL in the reference list, how does the marker know from the report (where it just says Morrison 2011) the reference belongs to dividend cover figures? Do I mention Dividend Cover somewhere in the text or reference list?

    Hi Trephena
I have used dividend cover figures in my analysis. The figures are from different pages in 2011 and 2014 annual reports.
this is exactly where I got the figures from:
    https://www.morrisons-corporate.com/Documents/Morrisons-Annual-Report-2011.pdf page 3 andhttps://www.morrisons-corporate.com/Documents/Corporate2014/Morrisons_AnnualReport13-14_Complete.pdf page 46.

How and where ( next to the each figure?) would I reference these in the text and in the reference list
    Thank you

    Hi Trephena

Thank you for the article which I will be reading.
I just wanted to ask another question. I am currently on part 3 and it is challenging.
I have already asked you about the ROCE figures for my companies which are calculated on a different bases. I know you advised better ratios to analyse but I really would like to explain the change in Roce for both companies.
Instead of calculating my own ROCE figures can I mention that both companies have used different formulae to calculate ROCE in my limitations in part 2, and mention that I am analysing the trend rather than the actual figures? Or is this not a good idea? Or shall I just calculate my own ratios

    Hi Trephena
I am currently analysing investor ratios. What should I be looking for apart from the fact that eps is falling because of declining profits

    Thanks for replying.
Would it be ok for me to email you part 3 to just have a look at after I have finished it?
    Just to get an opinion.

    Hi Trephena

I have taken your advice and have started a SWOT and PESTLE analysis of both companies as I had not started this before the financial analysis. There are some you tube videos from business analysts who have done SWOTs for both companies. I am using this as a basis for my analysis. How do show this? Do I, after my analysis copy the www link to the videos, or do I actually write down that these ideas are from so and so… I don’t want to be accused of plagiarism!
Also do I do separate analyses for each company and end with a conclusion or do one SWOT/PESTLE and compare the strengths of one with the other and do the same for other factors.

    hi
Thank You Trephena. I am really trying my best to conquer part 3 and your answer helps tremendously. I think the difficulty for me is linking all the information together because there is so much and it is conflicting.
I am currently analysing ROCE for both companies. My company calculates ROCE using PAT and the comparator uses underlying operating profit. Capital employed is calculated differently as well. It would not be a meaningful comparison. Shall I calculate ROCE using information from SOCI and SOFP, or shall I use ‘their’ figures.

    Forever Grateful

    Hi
I also forgot to ask do I need to analyse why comparator is showing better results?

    Hi Trephena

I am stuck in part 3 of my rap!
I have to write 4500 words but I am finding it hard to even start.
I have started with a financial analysis, so my first ratio is GPM. I have calculated GPM for my company and comparator over the three years. I have also produced a graph comparing both. The hard part is the analysis and evaluation. I know that GPM has fallen over the years because of high costs and inflation and there is info in the annual reports.
But how do I write this? do I copy and reference extracts from the annual report or do I write it in my own words and how on earth am I going to write 4500 words. it just seems too much.
    Regards

    Hi again
I have just been looking at the company’s annual report and they have included main ratios such as NPM.
Some of the ratios such as GPM and ROCE and asset turnover which I have listed in part 2 of my rap that I want to analyse are not calculated.
Shall I calculate them myself(and show this) or pick other ratios such as increase in turnover per year etc?

    Hi everyone
Do I have to work out the ratios myself and show my calculations, even if they are already calculated in the annual report.
I noticed that the EPS is already given in the FS, so do I have to show the calculations.
If I need to show my calculation would it be with the grap in excel etc?
    Kind regards

    Thanks Trephena
Next question! I have created a graph for my company showing trend in market share.
The info for the graph was from some pictograms from the internet showing changes in market share year on year. I have also inserted these pictograms (referenced) in my text and then shown the graph.
Do I have to write anything below the graph to show where I got my figures from? I have retained an excel copy for appendix .
    Regards

    Hi
Just wondered if any of the moderators can clarify whether graphs, tables and charts etc can be in colour or do they have to be in black and white?

    Hi
Thank you to all the forum mentors who have answered my question, it is really helpful.
There is one more question I would like clarified.
I am worried about plagiarism, and as I research my project it seems that most of the report will be referenced, except of course my financial and business analysis, although even the business analysis may partly be referenced from quotes off the internet.
For part 2 of the project where I would explain business models and financial ratios it seems impossible to do this in my own words.
Is this acceptable, because it seems impossible to write anything in my own words when all the information and data is available on the internet.

    Kind Regards
    Fatema

    Hi
I am doing Topic 8 for my RAP project. The company I am analysing has a year end date of 2nd February 2014 and the comparator company I am using to benchmark has a year end date of 15 March 2014, please could you explain whether this is acceptable or do I have to take comparators results at 2nd February which seems a bit complicated.
    Regards
