BSC registered MentorMarch 15, 2016 at 5:33 pm #306511If you are asking about value of BSc degree in the Middle East Job Market. I spent two years in Dubai. Employers are just happy to see your Graduate degree whatever you have either from Pakistan or UK. Actually you are getting BSC degree on the basis of ACCA by submitting thesis only. you are not eligible to get personal or academic reference. You should focus to achieve good average marks in ACCA ultimately it will be helpful to get higher class in BSC degree. Grade will be varied on your quality of the project.

OBU Registered MentorMarch 15, 2016 at 5:25 pm #306508I can give you best advise. you have two option.
First option: You can align or adjust only Profit and Loss account by adding half year income and expense, you can not touch balance sheet figures you know what I mean. If you chose this option It will change complete picture your ratios result, you have to support your evaluation by providing reasons from authentic sources. i.e annual reports , director reports, other independent sources. I can conclude that It will create unnecessary differences.
Second option: you have to evaluate three year performance. 2015, 2014 & 2013 irrespective of different reporting period. you can highlight this limitation under part two and explain how you work on it.
Further, you can review six months result of the competitor if you can find significant change you can incorporate in your evaluation by maintaining word limit.
Many students face this issue (different accounting period) and they prefer to select second option..
Hope the answer of the question,

BSC Registered MentorMarch 15, 2016 at 5:01 pm #306506Hi. hope you are doing well.
you can chose different company where you can find individual accounts and make your life easy. If you can find individual accounts of CIPLA then you dont have to discuss about its subsidiaries and write balance report. You can not exceed your word limit it will give very bad impression and will effect on your result..
Anything else I can help you.

You will bring all these issues to the attention of your project mentor, He/she guides you step by step and develop your research skills.
I suggest you to select companies from same countries because you will analyze Business and Financial performance over three year period. to keep balancing your report you will have to have reliable information from different sources to help you end your report within word limit. Both countries have different business and financial environment and how will you make sure your analysis is more meaningful and like with like,
You can select any of the following companies for your research project
Novartis
Pfizer
Roche
Sanofi
Merck & Co.
Johnson & Johnson
GlaxoSmithKline
AstraZeneca
Gilead Sciences
Takeda
AbbVieKeep in mind you can find different sources easily during your project, only annual report is not enough to prove your deep research. most of the information students access online. Does this sound good to you

I am understanding your question. Suppose If your main company is using IFRS and Competitor is preparing Financial Statements under GAAP. first question should be raised in your mind whether both accounting practice are acceptable? Answer is yes yes. If both are acceptable then you will not find major variances, significant difference. but for save
Otherwise you can share link of financial statements I will review and try to give you my best advise how to handle situation. Whatever option you chose please write appropriate reason under limitation heading in part two to make your report understandable for examiner and inform them how you overcome this issue.
Hope the answer of the question,

Q1 Is the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting recognised in the country in which Ilive?
The BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting is equivalent to any undergraduate Honours degree undertaken at a UK university and is recognised by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). You will have to ask your own higher education authority if the BSc is recognised in your own country.
Q2) Can you provide me with my Grade Point Average?
The BSc in Applied Accounting programme does not currently operate a GPA system. The programme is considering implementing the GPA system alongside the current UK degree classification, subject to agreement with ACCA. The University
has launched its GPA system for on-campus programmes starting in 2013.Q3) How many credits is the degree worth?
360 credits or 180 European Credit Transfer System credits.
Q4) Can you provide me with a personal or academic reference?
As the programme is a distance learning course, we are unable to provide academic or personal references. However, we are able to provide award confirmation letters and /or transcripts.
Addition, Most of the Universities in the USA and Canada recognized BSC Hons but it goes through an evaluation process. If you are planning to study in the USA for Master program or any professional qualification such as CPA USA and CPA CGA. You can prepare yourself to eligible. There is many success stories of students who made their career in Europe, USA and Canada. Students should select right mentor to give them right direction.

OBU has not bound you to select company for your country only. You can select companies from any country. You can find lot of companies from Africa, Asia, United States and United Kingdom. In the United States, all public listed companies have been following Sabon-Oxley act and and reporting more financial disclosures.
to make your analyzing more meaningful you should select companies from same country otherwise you will have to evaluate different economic, Financial and business environment.
There is a major limitation of word limit. You can not exceed beyond 7500 in your research report.

OBU Registered MentorFebruary 21, 2016 at 8:59 pm #301482You should see primary / core services of the company if it meets your requirement then you can analysis on overall basis and do not require to separate them. If You think there is a limitation you can explain in the heading of “Limitation and tell how you overcome this problem”
OBU clearly mentioned about Telecommunications Industry:
Telecommunications Providers of mobile telephone services; including cellular, satellite and paging services. Includes wireless tower companies that own, operate and lease mobile site towers to multiple wireless service providers. You can select different competitor if possible because you need the same account.

ALI FAROOQ OBU Registered MentorFebruary 18, 2016 at 6:18 pm #301064You have to apply formula on the excel sheet while preparing financial statements and ratios , Examiner can easily review by using the “insert function” in excel
I strongly recommend to my students to compute ratios and apply formula.
You can provide Ratio formulas in the separate excel sheet i.e Gross profit margin = gross profit / revenue = ( revenue – cost of goods sold ) / revenueHope the answer of the question

Ali Farooq
OBU Registered MentorFebruary 18, 2016 at 5:54 am #300907I encourage to students to compute ratios by them self and you may find difference between your ratio and their ratios. you should not be worried about it. Ratio differences can occur because of different assumption/judgement used by company. you should highlight this matter under the heading of limitation and inform examiner you are following your approach or the company,
If you select public listed company then you can get financial information from stock exchange and annual report. I would like to highlight one issue here. some business newspapers publish research report on companies but you may find differences in financial figures & ratios. I recommend you to focus on annual reports to extract financial figures because it is audited 🙂
