I hope everyone is doing well, my message will be slightly long but please take a few minutes to read it?

I failed both FR &AA at 49, This was my first time writing the exam at a new centre and only second time at a centre in a new country (the previous centre It took me 3 hours to reach and this one was just 30 minutes away)

Unfortunately I faced technical issues in both my exams, losing around 10 minutes in both exams. Had these issues not occurred I would have a 100% passed the exam, I hadn’t slept before my exams and it didn’t strike me to inform the invigilator during the exams, After the exam when I spoke to her she told me someone else also faced my specific issue sometime ago and was given extra time by the invigilator and had I informed her during the exam she would have done the same for me.

She told me to try applying for mitigating circumstances which I did but also informed me it wouldn’t be of much use since she couldn’t submit a report from her side but told me to still try

I did submit a report to ACCA but from the exam performance I can deduce that They haven’t done anything about it, I’m not sure if they even read my complaint once.

Unfortunately this wasn’t just another exam session for me and more of a do or die situation since I need to apply for OBU in November, applying in may isn’t an option and At this point I will have to leave the course.

After researching thoroughly I found out that the administrative review will not do much and a mentor recommended I write an E-mail to ACCA, which I did and they responded with a generic E-mail telling me that I can apply to the examinations appeal committee. I plan to apply even though I know it won’t yield much.

Does anyone have absolutely any advice for me?
I haven’t been able to sleep since these results came out and I cried for the first time in 10 years or so. Does anyone have absolutely any advice for my situation to try and appeal for my marks?

If by any chance someone from ACCA or someone who knows someone at ACCA is reading this, All is ask is my case be reviewed fairly since I, at the moment will have to leave the qualification and this would severely impact me for the rest of my life and my career. This was the most important exam for me up until now and to fail without it being my fault is killing me

I am simply unable to digest how someone can be so unlucky especially during such an important time

Welcome to OpenTuition and our forums – though it is a sad introduction. I have been advising ACCA students for 30 years and my best advice to you – honestly – is to draw a line under the matter. Hanging on to what is not even a remote chance of a successful appeal is just postponing moving on and resitting the exams.

As it says here https://www.accaglobal.com/uk/en/student/exam-entry-and-administration/exam-results/mitigating-circumstances.html “The appeals process is not a re-consideration of your circumstances. The Committee will undertake independent checks to confirm all stages of the mitigating circumstances process were undertaken and the correct mark was in fact issued to you.”

The marking procedures are very vigorous and such marginal marks will have already been scrutinised. (In my 7 years as an examiner, I did not see even one exam result overturned on an administrative review.)
