I live in Ireland but not sure whether to do the Global variant or the Irish variant. Global seems more convenient as there is material readily available online for it and it is a computer based exam. But would sitting the global exam this put me at a disadvantage in the future or does it matter that much?
Thanks.

Irish or Global? How can I answer that in any definitive way? I suppose it depends where you see your future. Are you aiming to be a partner in an Irish Accounting / Auditing firm? Then that would be a no-brainer. Select the Irish variant.
Are you looking to move to UK (not pertinent to your question, I know) then you’d probably want to elect for the English variant.
Are you looking to be proficient in global commercial law? Then probably Global variant would be your choice.
As you rightly point out, OpenTuition has a limited availability of resources that could be of assistance. We have nothing that could be of particular tailored assistance for the Irish variant choice. I have NO IDEA at all just how close Irish law is to English law. I imagine that there’s not a lot of difference but that’s something that maybe you could research for yourself
Ultimately, so far as I can see, your best option would be the one that fits most closely to how you see your accounting future.
I’m not sure that it has, but I hope that that has helped!
May 31, 2024 at 4:18 pm #706315Hi Mike,
Thanks a million for your help.
I probably should have pointed out that my current client base are all located overseas, so I am considering sitting the Global variant because of this. Additionally, I wouldn’t say becoming a partner in an Irish firm is something I am currently aiming to do (maybe in the distant future – in that case I may have to sit the exam again in Irish variant which wouldn’t bother me). But for now, seen as in my current position my clients are overseas, I would have said the Global variant probably suits me best.
Again I really appreciate your help.
Thanks again

Whatever, if you have an issue with the law and feel that I may be able to help, do post again on this forum and I shall get back to you.
OK?
