Sir my question relates to Bits and Pieces June 2009.

It has been agreed to pay time and a half to sales assistants that work on Sundays.
The normal hourly rate is $20 per hour. In total five sales assistants will be needed for the six hours that the store will be open on a Sunday.

They will also be able to take a half-day off (four hours) during the week. Staffing levels will be allowed to reduce slightly during the week to avoid extra costs being incurred.

Sir w.r.t the last few lines shouldn’t there be a saving of cost, as the question states avoid extra cost being incurred.

Maybe I’m unable to interpret the exact wording of the examiner. I’m really confused can you please help me out

You are presumably clear about the amount needed to pay just for the Sunday work.

As far as the bit about staffing levels is concerned, because those working on Sundays are able to take time off during the week then it means that either they would have to pay more to other workers filling in the time or alternatively to accept that there will be a lower staffing level due to some people missing for a few hours. The question says that they will allow the staffing level to be reduced. So they will not have to pay any more during the week, but also they will not pay any less during the week (and so not make a saving) because the Sunday workers will still be paid their full wages during the week even though they are being allowed to take some time off.
