Sir in this answer examiner has written that basic settlement is past service cost and additional settlement is current service cost. I do not understand that how basic settlement is past service cost and additional settlement is current service cost. Can you please explain me?

The basic settlement is in respect of work they have done in the past.
The extra settlement is for those who continue to provide service in the current period.
