Dear Tutor. Sorry for bothering you with other of my questions. This question is posing me some problems.
Q1. For each of the following statements indicate whether they are common feature associated with functional or matrix structures.
Tendency for departmental jargon to develop
I think the answer is matrix because a team combining different people from different department is most likely to develop jargon than in a functional organisational structure. But the answer says its a functional organisational structure.
I would say that functional structures are more likely to develop jargon as each function/department can become rather monolithic, inward-looking and less concerned about communicating with others.
A matrix structure introduces more reporting lines to other departments and this means that too much jargon will interfere with communication there.
