Hi OT community,
I just wanted to say a big thank you to OT for all the free resources, lecturers, website administrators and the wonderful community. I have managed to pass all 9 of my papers in 1 attempt thanks to open tuition’s advice (study text + lectures and then practice, practice and some more practice).
What I have done still seems impossible to me and just for the sake of one’s mental health I’d advise people that if they can afford to, they should go slower. I wrote my first paper in September 2021 and at the time I was with a local tuition provider. I soon realized that I would not be able to afford it for the rest of my exams not just financially but also time since I work fulltime.
I decided to self-study for the remaining 8 papers (writing 2 at each sitting) and with each exam session I was pleasantly surprised but mostly relieved.
PM – Sep 2021
AA and TAX – Dec 2021
FR and FM – Mar 2022
SBR and SBL – Jun 2022
AFM and AAA – Sep 2022There are a lot of great resources out there and I even tried some myself but if you want concise notes that are to the point and focus on the exam’s requirements, I definitely recommend using open tuition. Also, it’s best not to overwhelm yourself with study material.
Thank you once again to OpenTuition. I really can’t imagine how I could have done this without this platform.

It would be helpful to other students to know whether you were able to self-study “full time” – or if you had to study alongside a full-time “9-5” day job.
Note that your journey with us does not have to end here – we also have a qualified/members forum https://opentuition.com/forum/qualified-members-forum

May I ask you to elaborate more on your study approach please? I understand you used the open tuition notes and lectures but I wondered what your study plan was please?
Was your approach to take it chapter by chapter with practicing questions along the way?
October 21, 2022 at 6:30 pm #669598Thank you so much for the invite to the forum. Not sure if I can still edit the original post but I was self-studying and working fulltime (8am to 5pm).
October 22, 2022 at 5:53 pm #669654Hi Mcdaddy17,
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I did take it 1 chapter at a time. I went through every single chapter of the OT study text and didn’t skip any, even the introductory chapters and the final chapter on professional marks.
A typical study session was as follows:
I’d get through a chapter from the study text on my own while trying out the exercises in that chapter, then watch the lecture videos to make sure I understood and correct any mistakes from the exercises. Sometimes the chapter notes are too brief, or the exercises are too confusing so I can watch the video while going through the study text at the same time.
Every few weeks I’d schedule days where instead of doing a new chapter I’d “consolidate my knowledge. Basically, I briefly go over the chapters I covered so far and then practice questions specific to those chapters from past papers or from the ACCA study hub (If it is available in your region, I highly recommend this).
OT study texts do not follow the ACCA syllabus exactly as it is outlined (I don’t think any study text does), but OT does disclose that their tutors are experienced, they have been teaching ACCA for many years in some of the most well-known institutions and the study text covers everything you need to pass the exam, so I put my trust in that and only used OT study text for covering the syllabus. It’s also very short and to the point, I found that helpful because I was studying 2 courses at a time, so I needed to make sure I covered the syllabus for both courses on time and have enough time to revise.
I hope this was helpful.
