Hello Sir,
To calculate a Total Shareholder return we will be using the dividend which is already paid (or) will we be using the dividend which is declared but not paid?
Or, should we need to add both the dividends sir?
September 16, 2022 at 2:52 pm #666543If the closing share price is quoted ex div then we would use both dividends. If it was quoted ex div then we would only use the dividend that had been paid.
However I would be surprised if this were ever to be relevant in the exam.
September 16, 2022 at 3:58 pm #666549Sir, but the question didn’t mention it has a ex-dividend closing share price. The dividend of 20X4 was already paid in 20X5 ($0.25). There was another dividend of $0.45 which was declared at end of 20X5 and not paid until following years. I am very confused with this question.

September 17, 2022 at 3:23 pm #666614Given that the dividend had been declared, you would assume that the closing market value was an ex div value.
