    Hi all,

I became an ACCA member in October 2020. Thanks primarily to OpenTuition (thank you).

I have taken a break from study as I had studied solidly for three years to qualify, with the pandemic as well I didn’t start any further qualification.

Today I have registered with CIMA and intend to take the professional gateway route.

My question is, the ACCA FAQs state that studying toward another qualification is acceptable CPD, I don’t see how I would relate that directly back to the three questions with ACCA CPD.

Am I to read it as my additional study would count as unverified CPD only where I can’t relate it directly to my current employment?

    Does anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks all

    Steve

Hi Steve – ACCA’s certificates – which you can see listed at the bottom of this page https://www.accaglobal.com/vn/en/qualifications/glance.html each have a number of hours assigned to them – this is the number of verifiable hours that can be claimed for successful completion (i.e. obtaining the certificate). I know that for DipIFR, which has a 3-hour exam, it is possible to claim 40 hours for someone with a local qualification upskilling to IFRS (not for someone who has qualified as ACCA in the last 20 years because it is at a level slightly lower than SBR).

I suggest that on passing CGMA you could similarly claim 40 hours – all verifiable. This means that if in the year that you pass you do an additional 19 hours non-verifiable, 19 hours of the verifiable will be carried forward to the following year.

    Hi Kim

Thank you for your detailed response, much appreciated.

Your suggestion appears to be that I only claim the CPD in the year I complete CIMA/CGMA which is understandable.

Apologies if I posted the topic in the wrong forum! I was looking for a CPD forum originally.

    Thank you again.

    Steve

I think if you were thinking of sitting the exam next year you might claim 20 units this year, but unless attending a course, say, this would be non-verifiable. Then next year on passing the exam you could claim 20 units verifiable. In this scenario you wouldn’t be carrying forward any verifiable units.
