Hi, i am reaching out as i had qualified as ACCA member in Dec 2019. But since then i have struggled with my understanding with accounting concepts as a result i dont feel confident in my ability to take on qualified positions. When looking for new jobs i cant apply for simpler accounting roles as they are tailored towards part qualified or aat members. My previous 2 jobs after uni werent in good working environments. One hindered my progress and kept me at a basic level and the other just chucked me into the deep end without much training. Any advice would be grately appreciated.
August 27, 2021 at 7:49 am #633112I can’t offer you any advice from a practical work perspective but perhaps you could build your confidence with CPD resources – as well as meet the CPD requirements.
From this landing page https://www.accaglobal.com/lk/en/member/cpd-landing.html you can choose events/online
From the online events you can select a subject area – e.g. Audit and assurance or Corporate Reporting – then you can select a type – e.g. AB article or CPD article (these are free) or an Online course or Further course (that you should expect to pay for).
Perhaps start with the CPD articles – you might be surprised how much you remember/know already and that should give you confidence of your technical ability. Then perhaps talk to and put yourself on the books of a local recruitment agency for accountancy roles.
Or there’s advice you will find here from ACCA https://jobs.accaglobal.com/careers
October 20, 2022 at 9:36 am #669414I know the feeling too well. I feel like an imposter in my own life 🙁
keep looking for the correct role. there are jobs out there that will build you up.I’ve managed to get a job where i will get the correct training, i plan to stay in this job until i have the confidence to work as an accountant.
I will not call myself a chartered accountant until i feel confident enough to say so. I refer to myself as an affiliate and the way i would sell myself at an interview is to say that i have already shown my capability by passing the exams but i dont have the full skill set yet and want to find an opportunity where someone will help me grow and gain the experience i need.
