    As I explain in my free lectures if the coefficient of correlation is + or – 1 then there is perfect correlation in that there is an exact relationship between the two variables.

    If the coefficient is less than 1 then the relationship is not perfect but and so any correlation is only partial (but the nearer it is to 1 then the better).

    The example I work through in my lecture is of partial correlation, because the coefficient is less than 1.
