Hi John,
Are there any significant changes to the syllabus for September 2021 Exam? If so, will the current Notes and Videos be appropriate for them?
I had given AFM twice and failed with around 41-43 marks being well prepared. I’m able to attempt all the questions but I feel the questions were so twisted that I get confused as to what exactly they are asking us to do… Any advice?
June 10, 2021 at 4:54 pm #624453The only syllabus change is a section that has been added to all syllabuses stressing the importance of being able to use the software for the CBE exams. It is not a new ‘learning’ topic.
The suggestions I would make are as follows:
Work through every question in your Revision Kit – attempting the question before looking at the answer and then learning from your mistakes If you have already worked the questions then attempt them again (and consider then buying one from the other other Approved Publisher – BPP or Kaplan – so that you will get some different questions. And ask in this forum if there is anything you are not clear about in the answers.
Watch my lectures on a few past exam questions linked from ‘Revision Kit Live’ on our main AFM page, because I discuss the approach to the question as well as obviously explaining the workings.
In the exam make sure you do something for every part of every question. Even if (for example) there is a written part of a question that you feel you know little about, then just writing almost anything sensible will get you a mark (and every mark counts when you are aiming to get at least 50%).
I assume that in the past you have been sitting paper based exams, and so maybe your writing was hard to read or your workings were hard for the marker to follow. Given that it will be a CBE exam in September then neither of these will be a problem. If you are using spreadsheet formulae then you do not need to also type out the formula because the marker can see what you have used (and of course having formulae available in the spreadsheet for calculating things such as the NPV and IRR do speed things up – although because of this make sure that you have practiced on the ACCA practice platform so that you know what you can and cannot do on their spreadsheet 🙂 )

Then will there be new notes uploaded for Sept 2021 Exam?
Thank you
