    Hi Sir

I am getting confused in the question below, can you please help me solve it

A chemical flavouring, product C is made by mixing two materials together:

Standard – Kg per batch – $ per kg – $ per batch

    L – 300 – $1.30 – 390
    H – 500 – $2.82 – 1,410

    Input per batch 800kg

    10% standard loss 80kg

    Output per batch 720kg

For batch 1247 input as 250.5kg of L and 669.5kg of H. Output from the batch was 810kg of product C.

    What is the yeild variance?

I am getting confused with the 10% loss part.

    Thank you in advance!

For the yield variance compare the actual total input (920kg) with the standard total input for the actual production (810 x 800/720 = 900 kg), in both cases at standard mix (300/800 for L, and 500/800 for H) and at standard cost.

Have you watched my free lectures on mix and yield variances?

Sir, I got two different answers.

When I did it in Tabular form, I got the answer as 177.339 A
and when I did it this way (below) I got it as 45A.

    920kg of Input Produced 810kg
920Kg of input should have produced 828kg

    Yeild= 18×2.5 = 45A.

Please tell me where have I gone wrong.

Why are you attempting a question for which you do not have an answer? You should be using a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA Approved Publishers – they have answer 🙂

I cannot tell you where you have gone wrong because I cannot see your workings to be able to check.

Again I ask, have you watched my free lectures on this?
