I failed Research report in P41 submission but I passed skilled learning statement, I am planning to resubmit it in P42. My report is in Topic 8. And when I log in to submission portal, the system didn’t let me submit the project unless I submit the skilled learning statement. So should I submit the old file I already passed and do I need to resubmit other documents and appendix like financial statement of selected company and presentation slides?

Any other files relevant to your current submission still need to be uploaded but if submitting on the same topic and organisation you cannot be failed on an element passed previously e.g. the IT / spreadsheet part.

August 23, 2021 at 1:44 pm #632626I also failed topic 8 as my comparator was inappropriate. I was using ITV in the UK as a media broadcaster. Would a new comparator of Viacom / CBS, a US-based company be appropriate? They are not a direct competitor but they do have a subsidiary operating Channel 5 in the UK which is considered a competitor.
Does the comparator need to be a competitor or just one within the industry that can be compared against?
Thanks
August 27, 2021 at 10:41 am #633120Channel 5 would probably be fine as a competitor but the issue might be obtaining financial data to do the comparisons – as unless this is available at a company level (as opposed to Group level) you would not be be able to make valid comparisons. Sky would seem to be a possible but there may be difficulties in its structure too – are Sky Atlantic, Sky media and Sky Broadband, Sky Box Office all rolled into one for example? Possibly you may find some UK industry benchmarks that you could use?
This type of problem is inherent unfortunately in Old topic 8 as companies become conglomerates and have global reach – companies sucked up into a group just don’t have publicly available info of their detailed performance.
Although it is of little help to you as you are resubmitting the new Topics 4 and 5 with no restrictions on industry sectors should help new students….
