Hi all!
I was wondering how members, who are not being based in the UK (or in other English speaking countries/countries relying on international qualifications), go ahead with their ACCA membership…
I’m originally from Georgia (Eastern Europe) and I’m currently based in France for a foreseeable future without considering further international relocations. From what I see, ACCA is relatively unknown to employers and the general population here, especially, compared to my home country where it is a go-to Accountancy qualification. I’m quite worried about the value it will bring to me if I stay here and become a member (I’m almost there with 12 out of 13 exams passed!).
Also, the admission and annual subscription fees (£258 for both) seem to be quite high for the members being based in lower-income countries who might barely use the resources and connections offered by ACCA and have salaries that are much lower than in the UK. From what I see, unfortunately, ACCA does not take into account a member’s country in the annual subscription fees that they charge (I compared the UK fees to the EU, African and Asian countries on a random basis and they are ALL the same).
Have you been in the same situation? Just sharing your experience with me would be much appreciated as I feel I’m all alone in France 🙂
Many thanks!
March 3, 2021 at 6:06 pm #613139Hello Ana – it is certainly true that the western European countries in particular have relatively few ACCA members because they have their own national qualifications which can be sat in local language. The ACCA qualification is a global qualification sat in English. So although there may not be much demand for ACCA in a French company – you might find a French subsidiary of an International group to be more interested in the ACCA designation – especially if it reports under IFRS.
You might be interested in setting up an alert to this page https://jobs.accaglobal.com/jobs/france and in this article https://www.accaglobal.com/pk/en/member/member/accounting-business/2016/05/interviews/philippe-arraou.html
Rather than consider £258 to be high and based on higher UK incomes – it is actually significant lower than the fees of the “UK” accountancy institutions – e.g the ICAEW annual fee for members in Europe/UK is £395 (!) ACCA DOES take account of lower incomes – that’s why its fees are lower.
Also I would like to share with you – ACCA provides opportunities to meet CPD requirements entirely for free – whereas you will see ICAEW, for example, offering 1/2 day courses (3 units) that cost more than £200 + VAT (that’s members’ rate!)
I am FCCA and ACA (the ICAEW designation). To be ACCA has taken me to Africa – to Asia – and former CIS – even to Tbilisi – your cuisine and Georgian hospitality are BEYOND amazing – undoubtedly the finest and most memorable of the 50 countries I have visited during my working career!
So my personal advice to you would be to stick with it – especially as you have come so far – you never know what will be around the corner!
March 5, 2021 at 1:37 pm #613519Hello Kim,
I can’t thank you enough for your very informative replies in this and the related post about ACCA members in France.
I’m happy that I did start the topic, and it will definitely help me appreciate the ACCA membership more.
On a sentimental side, the comment about Georgia and Tbilisi (my home town), just warmed up my heart 🙂
All the best!

September 12, 2021 at 3:16 pm #635592Welcome everybody,
I would like to ask, whoever enters this topic about the ACCA recognition in Europe.
I know that this question was here long time ago, but I would like to refresh it.
I know that ACCA is saying that it is recognised all over the world, but then you start to check some other forums and opinions and many countries, which might be pretty good for living are not having any interest of it. I know it is important in England, Ireland, Malta (I live here now) and Luxembourg (although in most job offers they require French apart from English).
I would like to hear how ACCA stands in countries like: Germany, Switzerland,
Liechtenstein, Scandinavia and maybe others which I did not mentioned.
Also some thoughts on Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada would be good as well.
Please share your opinions, if you have any ideas how it is there, or maybe you actually live there and know more or less how it works.Thank you,
Dawid
December 22, 2021 at 11:12 pm #644713As long as you work for international companies it is highly regarded.
I work in Switzerland and many companies here have ACCA / ACA / CPA as requirements for applying.

You could be “spammed” for making the same post four times – if you make an appropriate post on the general forum with a suitable subject line you should get some response to it. That said – this is not the platform for making such criticism as ACCA cannot respond to you here. I advise that you contact ACCA directly https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/footer-toolbar/contact-us.html
