Hi
Please share any tips on how to approach the exam questions during the exam, time management during the exam and any other tips that you might have.
I’m sitting for AFM this Friday (it’s my final exam) and so far I’ve only been able attempt around 20 questions. I am thinking of redoing those questions in the next couple of days instead of attempting new ones.
Also is reading the technical articles mandatory? Can you recommend any articles that I should read for this time? I’m not sure if I will have time to go through many of them.
Thank you very much

December 8, 2020 at 3:53 pm #598434In the exam itself, do make sure you allocate your time both between the three questions (so 90 minutes for question 1 and 45 minutes for each of the Section B questions) and between the parts of each question (at 1.8 minutes per mark).
You almost certainly will not have time to finish every part of every question, but make sure you have done something, however little, for every part of every question. However hard you might find some parts of some questions, you can always do something (even if for a calculation part all you manage to do is make it clear you know which formula you should be using, and even if for a written part you just write one line – at least both are likely to get you a mark, and even just one mark is important if it makes the difference between failing on 49 or passing on 50 🙂 ).
It is better to have attempted all parts of every question even if most parts are not finished, than to leave our parts of questions completely.
Watch at least one of my revision lectures linked from this page: https://opentuition.com/acca/afm/afm-revision-lectures/
because I work through a few past Question 1’s explaining how to approach the question and the way the current examiner structures the question in a way that is helpful.Make sure obviously that you get the easy 4 professional marks in question 1, and do keep your report separate from the appendix (it does not matter which order you do them in but make sure it is clear which is the report and which is the appendix).
One of the two section B questions is virtually always either foreign exchange risk management or interest rate risk management, so make sure that you are confident of both.
The technical articles are not mandatory, but they are all good and worth reading. I cannot single out any as more or less important than the others.
Otherwise, the more questions you attempt from your Revision Kit the better.
I hope all goes well for you on Friday (and remember that if you find the exam to be awful, then so will everybody else and that makes the chances of passing better – the ACCA will never let the pass rate get too low 🙂 )
