    Direct data Capture

Use of bar coding and scanners

Employee time spent filling in timesheets

Secretary time spent taking minutes at a meeting

    Processing

Payroll department time spent processing and analysing personnel costs

Time for personnel to input data on to the MIS

The following costs relate to management accounting information for Kite Co for April 20X8:

    Cost $
Employee time spent filling in purchase requisitions 600

Use of barcodes and scanners to record inventory 200

Storage of sales information no longer needed 400

Time taken by staff to input data into production system 900

What were the total direct data capture costs for Kite Co for April 20X8?

    Now the answer says 200

But why not employee filling of 600?

Direct data capture is where data is input automatically into the computer system rather that someone having to type it in.-then employee time spent filling in timesheets is the manual way of filling how it can be considered as direct data capture?

Bpp shows it as direct data capture but in the question it shows 200.so confusing

Dear Tutor, I need your explanation to get it.

I do not understand why “employee time spent filling in timesheets” and “secretary time spent taking minutes at a meeting” is considered as direct data capture?

I do not understand why “payroll department time spent processing and analysing personnel costs” and “time for personnel to input data (eg in relation to production) on the MIS” is considered as processing?

Also does processing have to be related to only production?

Processing certainly does not have to be related to only production.

We commonly refer to the processing of data, whether by hand or by computer.

I do not know where you are quoting everything from in your first post, so I cannot check the wording. However direct data capture is where date is input directly into the computer without someone have to enter it on a keyboard. The most obvious example is the use of barcodes.

I do not have the BPP Study Text and so I cannot check the context of what you are quoting.

As far as Kite Co is concerned, if it is in the current edition of the BPP Revision Kit then please tell me the number of the question.
