Hi
I have a general question regarding paper approach
how many of you have ever use headings and subheadings in exam? does that really make any difference? and if you prefer headings will you use black marker for that or the same ball point and underline it. as I read in examiner report a lot about headings so wanted to know how to approach it.
June 4, 2020 at 2:51 pm #572856The vast majority of exams are CBE. At strategic professional level, markers will consider whether suitable headings/sub-headings have been used in deciding whether to award professional marks. At this level, failure to use headings/sub-headings will lose marks.
Using (sub)headings is therefore a good “habit” to get into. In applied skills constructed response answers headings help direct markers to what is covered where in an answer – they shouldn’t have to guess – as a minimum, each part (a), (b), (i), (ii) should have a heading – it can be just one or two words – this shouldn’t be onerous. Using headings should also help you – the candidate – focus on answering the question set.
June 6, 2020 at 8:00 am #572952thanks a lot sir for your kind response. I did my APM and AFM exams and I remember I hardly use any headings in my answer and that might be a reason I could only score 60 percent.
I am preparing for SBL and SBR , for SBR I understand heading requirement is less as compared to SBL. I wanted to know to make headings bold in SBL do we need to use markers or ball point with heading underline is sufficient? as ball points doesn’t make it too obvious.
June 6, 2020 at 9:55 am #572962In CBE it is possible to select underline – and in manuscript underline probably stands out best – but if without a ruler it looks messy. So to avoid having to underline perhaps just write in capitals – that should ensure you keep captions concise too.
