For pilot paper question 1,can you please show me how to calculate the number of patients of operation and cost? Just use ear operation as example…thank you.
Hidden away in note (ii) just above the requirements is the information about 15 wards, 8 patients/ward, 3 days per patient and 365 days per year.
Capacity = 15 x 8 x 365/3 = 14600
Note 7 says 80% capacity = 11,680, with a 25/75 split private/government.
Concentrating on private ear: 25% x 11,680 x 0.35 = 1,022
Fee per patient = 3000, so income = 3,000 x 1022 = 3,066,000
Variable surgical costs will be: 8284 (given) and budgeted are 35400 x 0.25 (variable portion) x 80% (to flex the budget) = 7,080.
