Dear Sir,
My understanding is that a Parent Company can be in the same time a Portofolio Manager and Parental Developer or a Synergy Manager and Parental developer. It can not be a Portofolio Manager and Synergy Manager in the same time as one is appropriate for widely diversified SBUs while the other for highly interdependent SBUs.
Please let me know the strategic management style when the Parent Company performs a double roles. Should it be a mix of Strategic Planning wiith Strategic Control Style?
Thank you very much,
Claudia
Usually, portfolio manager, synergy manager and parental developer approaches are regarded as alternatives.
I never use the terms ‘strategic planning’ and ‘strategic control’ styles (they are not mentioned in the syllabus or study guide) and I certainly don’t think it worth while for you to worry about reconciling the various approaches.
