Hi all, I took FM on Dec 6 at London Metropolitan University and just received an email last night from ACCA stating that there was a technical error meaning my exam wasn’t completed/they haven’t received it. This is a huge annoyance to me as I felt that I performed sufficiently well enough to score around 60-70% in that exam thanks to the materials on this website.
Has this ever occured to anyone? I am in the middle of emails with ACCA to find out what happened but I am awaiting them to respond. It’s a hindrance because it sets back all my study and job plans dramatically due to an error on their end. I distinctly remember clicking Submit and End when in the exam hall but the screen just went black when it happened; I was assured that the paper was sent and would be received by ACCA.
Now it’s highly likely that I’m going to have to retake this in March – the email they sent basically said they were refunding my exam entry but if I’m honest, I don’t really want to retake an exam I was comfortable that I passed first time round. Any advice?
December 25, 2019 at 9:24 am #556383Let me first offer you deep sympathy. I personally find this to be terrifying, as I am sure others reading will that are going to attempt similar exams. I think this sort of experience shows why there is still a place for paper exams to at least be offered as an option to candidates. In terms of what you can do about it, I am afraid I believe your options are limited. ACCA includes disclaimers limiting liability in circumstances similar to the above.I personally believe much more can go wrong with technologically based exams than can go wrong with pen and paper exams. I would continue communication with ACCA and with exam centre to see what can be done for you.

I’d be pushing for refund, plus travel, plus loss of income for the day off work you had to take.
I’ve no doubt they’ll be claiming some type of compensation from Pearson.
January 15, 2020 at 5:07 pm #558787That’s a bit terrifying to hear :O … particularly because I’m likely taking this exam at the same centre as you did for March 2020.
Are there some exam centres in London which are more preferable than others?
I hope you it works out for you and you aren’t forced to retake it!
(If you are, do push for maximum compensation and adjustments convenient to your timetable. Perhaps, on a positive look, redoing it could get you an even higher score, and more understanding of the subject that would transfer over when you give the professional papers).
