hi guys. i am 41 years old and new to ACCA and my worry is that i am probably too old for it. I am a good studier and fairly good at learning. Any one there with advise on my worries please?
November 20, 2012 at 12:15 pm #107959Hi Daniel – I started ACCA Nov 2010 at age 37. I am now on my last F paper – the dreaded F9! It can be done – stick in there!!
I dare say the P papers will be a lot more troublesome though.Im glad I am doing ACCA but I do regret not continuing after AAT back in 1994.
Never mind better late than never!November 20, 2012 at 1:53 pm #107960I’m 28 going on 29. I started ACCA at age 19.5sh. My circumstances are a bit peculiar & some advice support would be appreciated.
You see I got struck with blood cancer when I was 15.5sh.
I gave my GCSEs & Alevels & got straight As in them (I’d applied for special consideration regarding my circumstances which lead to me getting 60% extra time).
In ACCA I breezed (relatively) through the first 10 papers in 3 years. Now It’s been 4.5 years since & I’m stuck with the last paper the option P6.
In my ACCA exams I chose not to apply for special consideration as people/students had called me cheats in high school for asking Cambridge International Examinations Syndicate for extra time & I wanted to prove to those Btrds that I could very well do it own my own like any other normal student.
The dilema is I went from being a straight A getter to a guy who’d manage to do only 60-65/70 marks & scrape a pass. Now since last 4 or so years (8 years in ACCA total during which I’ve completed every other membership requirement) I’ve got 1 paper (P-6 UK) stuck & am constantly flunking between 46-49. The story is the same can manage to do only 65sh marks.
My friends who’ve qualified have told me to apply for extra time based on my medical condition (I still suffer from longterm treatment side effects realted to weak & painfull bones & muscles which is why I can’t complete the script).
My apprehension is that ACCA will throw any such application out no matter how genuine as they’ll say ”He did pass the other 13 without extra time didn’t he”.
I’m in a rut I want to get this over with but I can’t seem to.
So should I incase (God forbid) I go down this time apply for special consideration the next time & do you guys think ACCA will look at it sympatheticaly?
Note: for more about my conditions please google AVN as a result of ALL treatment.
Thanks
btw I’ve seen older guys doing it so yes anyone can provided they have the will to go through. 🙂November 22, 2012 at 3:15 pm #107961Danielacca – don’t fret! I don’t like to say it, but the likelihood is retirement age in 25-30 years time in the UK is going to be 70 (not sure where you’re from). So on that basis, and assuming you’re not wealthy enough to retire before that, you are going to be working for another 30 years!!!
So in that context, 3-4 years ACCA is really not that crazy an idea. It’s good for your brain to keep working out and hopefully beneficial for your career.
Have you got any exemptions to play with ? Even if you haven’t I think it’s still perfectly doable.
Best of luck in what ever you decide (I’m 32 btw and just submitted my ACCA OBU degree last night!)
