Ok with just under 2 weeks to go for the exam what is the best plan of action? Should I go through the study text again & then start revision q’s after that? Or two feet in to the revision Q’s as this where the real learning begins, this paper appears straight forward but in reality is not!!
November 19, 2012 at 11:33 pm #107813Just dive into questions i guess :). You will actually see what topics you are strong at and which one are troublesome.
Then you can go back to your study text and revise that troublemaker.
It also depends on your available time.Personally as a full time employee i can practically start my home study at 8 pm.
So this is my plan for the very last few days:
On working day
I just hit the question paper and do whatever i can based on what i have previously learned. Then i compare the answers, do a possibly fair score and make notes on every each question/topic how good or how bad I feel about it.I try to revise as much as i can from the answers the same time because I’m too exhausted going back to study text (maybe a quick glance to sunk some additional knowledge). Last but not least going through examiners report on particular paper. So this is 3-3.30 hrs in the evening.
During the next day at work if i find time i focus on revising my weak topics with OT. Just looking at OT notes and listening to John Moffat is better than nothing. However if you are at home during days, no problem you have plenty of time.
Weekends will be my attempts to create exam environment. I plan to do 2 papers per Sat and Sun. However i’ve found very difficult to do more than 1 full paper a day, the mental approach for the second paper was poor due to lack of motivation. Although doing 2 papers one morning one evening seems viable with plenty of time to rest and leaving some hours for revision reading.
Last word, Personally I’m doing only past paper question, and I don’t think i will have time to do any from revision kit, but i really i hope i will be able to hit the mock exam provided by helpful OT students.
So thats my only regret that i didnt do more practice question much earlier from revision kit. They were very daunting at beginning so i was pushing them away. I guess i found Open Tuition to late… 🙂
So to sum up:
I would put past paper question as priority to do (+ doing again those that you did bad), and if time allows do some from revision kit.Revision reading focused on your weak topics. Your strong ones won’t become much stronger to earn you lot of additional points. Performance, budget theory writing stuff and variances are rather “must be” on exam.
November 20, 2012 at 1:45 pm #107814I have been in the fortunate position of been able to book a few days off work to revise all my material, today is the last day of a 5 day marathon.
My take is to go through a chapter at a time learning the theory then follow it up with LOADS of questions from the exam kit and one or two from the past papers on the larger subjects (linear programming etc).
The next few days I will try and sit some past papers like stated above in exam conditions and mark them. I can then follow it up with reading through areas that I have struggled with on the exam paper.

Have to say have found the OT lectures & revision material a great help, would not have managed this far without it!!
