Hello,
I have accidently entered for the global variant for the F4 paper when I really intended to sit for the UK variant…I was told by ACCA that it is too late to change now.
I would like to know if there are vast differences between the 2 papers as my notes and text are for the UK variant – can I pass the global variant paper with the knowledge and notes I have for the UK variant ? Please clarify.October 26, 2012 at 10:29 am #106062Hi
Well, that’s a pity! If you check the global paper from a recent exam and compare with the English variant from the same exam, you’ll notice that 50% – 60% are identical questions. So, in theory, yes you could pass – but that would be exceedingly difficult trying to score 50% out of 60%!
You can download Global variant notes from this site, free. You’ll probably quickly notice that substantially all you have learned about contract law is excluded from the Global variant, so all those wonderful cases are irrelevant for Global.
Instead there’s quite a lot in the exam about Arbitration, International terms of trade, sale of goods, delivery and liability for goods in transit.
I have had students in the past who came on English variant courses but inadvertently entered for the Global exam. They worked through the differing sections on their own and, without exception, passed the exam with very respectable scores.
So, in answer to your question, probably not. But if you download the Global notes and work through those differing sections, you would have a realistic chance. A sensible thing to do would be to get stuck into past exam questions from a revision kit – but please do not get put off by the sheer length of those answers. They are clearly NOT representative of what even the best prepared student could achieve within the allotted 18 minutes
Good luck!
October 29, 2012 at 7:01 pm #106063Thank you for your response. Are the notes on the opentuition website for the global variant sufficient to pass ? Ill just got the kaplan revison kit so ill be going through the questions to..
On a separate note, I’ve been told by some students that the kaplan text, espcially for F4, is not sufficient to pass the exam – your take on this will be greatly appreciated – they instead recommend BPP..please advice..
October 30, 2012 at 11:18 am #106064No, the opentuition notes are not sufficient in themselves – they are course notes for using as a base when lecturing on courses. As already pointedout, 50% to 60% of global is the same as the English variant and there are lectures on most topics on the site.
It is essential that you work through the past exam questions, there is often a situation where an exam question is virtually the same as in former exams.
On a separate note …..I’m not prepared to comment. I do remember my son coming home from his first day at school in the new school year and complaining about his German teacher. He had not yet heard the teacher – they hadn’t had a German lesson that day. He had heard from friends who had learnt German the previous year that this particular teacher was “bad”.
I pointed out that it was unfair to go into a class with a teacher that you had never heard teach with preconceptions about that teacher’s ability.
The second day, when he arrived home, he was saying how “good” this teacher was.
Different folks, different strokes.
Some prefer Kaplan, some prefer Bpp, others prefer other publishers. It’s very much a personal choice and your own particular liking for different styles.
….and don’t pay any attention to “friends’ advice” ….make up your own mind
