Hello,
I have a revision kit for tax that is made for up to June 2017. Obviously I know getting the latest version would be ideal but I’m just wondering if you thought I could still use this to revise from and then adjust for recent changes before the exam? Or would the changes in syllabus be so big that this would be very confusing? Was also similarly interested in how useful old past papers were/how far back we should go before it might actually confuse us more?
Thanks,

June 11, 2019 at 9:22 am #520181For revision kit, it is always preferable to use latest version for tax. As it will be based on latest applicable finance act, you’d find it easier and time saving, rather than using an older version and making amendments as per latest finance act. We don’t have sufficient time for preparation these days and using an older version kit will consume a lot of your preparation time.
As far as past papers are concerned, there are more than enough questions in Kaplan revision kit. If you practice ALL of those questions, i believe your preparation is enough for pass. In addition, there are a number of practice questions at the end of Lecture Notes, you’d find them helpful too.

Buy a new one, it’s only £10 ish from BPP for the ebook using the discount code.
June 12, 2019 at 5:21 am #520116I’d say Tax is the one paper where it’s crucial to use the latest kit. Rates and rules change every year so it’s much better to get use the current rates and rules, otherwise you might get confused.
With other exams the changes tend to be lesser between years and you can quite easily use an older kit without too many problems.
