Hi,
I read Lecture Notes, one chapter after another, making my own notes as I went through. After each chapter, I would watch the Lecture video and then practice the end of chapter questions set within the Lecture Notes. After going through all chapters of the Lecture Notes this way (which took me 24 days with roughly 4h/day), I skim read through all my notes (especially to recap on the earlier material). This is the way I’ve just used to go through the syllabus of BA1.
Following this, I just did the first part of the Kaplan Exam Kit 2017 questions set, which was A1 National Income and Changing Economic Growth Rates. Unfortunately, I got only 13/27 questions correct, which I found incredibly disappointing π and concerning tbh, and BA1 is the very first module too. I felt unprepared really when doing it, and sometimes felt as if the questions in front had material that I hadn’t touched upon before (e.g. how Q10 was based upon “contractionary monetary policy”).
Am I going wrong anywhere in my approach? Would it have been better to perhaps practice on the Kaplan Exam Kit after each and every chapter of the module? Any suggestions? I’d really appreciate any feedback so I can build an effective study approach with adequate practice moving forward, including for all the module I’ll take after BA1. Thanks a lot π
June 4, 2019 at 1:54 pm #518779No, you are fine. However, it is always necessary to use the Kaplan or BPP kits to supplement learning, ie learn from the questions by going back to notes where necessary. There will always be questions that can appear on terms not covered in the notes (they are notes not texts). However, there shouldn’t be too many. If you want to find out about ‘contractionary monetary policy’ then you can Google it. Whether or not the BPP text covers the term, I don’t know. I assume that Kaplan’s text and Kit are consistent.
Do not mark your answers on the Kit. Keep it clean so that youmcan try the questions afresh again. However, mark off the questions you got right and don’t revisit until you have got all questions right. Then, near the exam, you can try random selections from the whole Kit.

June 4, 2019 at 2:27 pm #518787Also, just to confirm, is it OK to use the 2016 (publication date) version of the Kaplan Exam Kit for BA1? I presume it shouldn’t make too much of a difference, right? Thanks.
June 4, 2019 at 10:34 pm #518958Correct.
June 5, 2019 at 9:26 am #519025OK thanks for that.
I presume same applies for BA2-4, but not for beyond Certificate Level (due to syllabus changes), right ? In regards to using the 2016 (publication date) version of the Kaplan Exam to practice for the exams. Thanks.June 5, 2019 at 10:20 am #519035Correct. Beyond BA4, the syllabus changes for November 2019 exams onwards so current kits will not be relevant then.
June 5, 2019 at 10:56 am #519055OK, thanks.
