Hi,
I am right to assume that the Fitzgerald and Moon’s dimensions of performance should strictly be applied to service industry?
Would other models such as Porter’s 5 Forces and the Boston Consulting Group matrix not work?

It depends on the type of question but bcg is something that can be applied to anything to win marks, besides porters 5 juz like balanced scorecard approach.
Fitzgerald and Moon assesses the PERFORMANCE of service industries. Porter Five Forces assesses competitiveness of an industry ie service and manufacturing, and BCG is used to determine product positioning when there is a portfolio of products and also used for SBUs. Clarify for me because this is my understanding.
My initial thought was that the Fitzgerald and Moon dimensions of Performance were strictly meant to assess the performance of a service industry, and BCG is used to assess whether an industry has got a balanced portfolio.Whilst the Poter’s 5 assesses competitiveness in a markeplace.
I would assume, and want to agree with mrfaizankhan, that there is no “one-way-rule” as to measuring the performance of a service industry. It depends on how the question is phrase. But if in doubt as to what measures to use, stick to the dimensions of Performance.
Good, I remember sitting P3 and applying the models as mrfaizankhan suggested to win marks. This does show that you understand when we are able to link different parts of the syllabus together ie thinking outside the box. I have been thinking mechanical in my application of the models in P5, hence me having to repeat. Thanks for reminding me that I cannot route learn stuff and that it depends on the scenario.
