Can we get exemption in audit and assurance if we do foundation in assurance instead
I don’t think there is a paper-by-paper exemption equivalence except for AB/FAB, FA/FFA and MA/FMA. These exams are the same in all respects.
FAU and AA do not have the same syllabus and have different exam formats.
FAU is an exam in the CAT qualification (one of the Foundation level Accountancy qualifications). AA is an exam in the Professional ACCA Qualification. After FAB/FFA/FAM progression is either to continue in foundations towards CAT or to switch to the Professional ACCA Qualification. Once registered for the ACCA qualification you can’t choose to do foundation exams instead – they are different qualifications.
For a definitive answer I suggest you contact ACCA directly.
