Good afternnon Sir,
Here is my question:
Considering the fact that the measure of performance of managers within divisions should be on a “level playing field” (i.e,segregate what they control from what they don’t)
Does “level playing field” ever exist?
Thank you
Very rarely, if ever. I think that people need always to be aware that raw numbers are likely to contain simplifications and to be misleading if taken simply at face value. Allowance therefore needs to be made when interpreting the numbers to adjust for other factors.
HTH
Thank you very much . Indeed, allowance needs to be made.
The inequality, interdependnce and controllabilty issues that exist in the business environment explains that there can’t be a perfect measure of performance. Hence, the concepts of P5 as course is baseless
No, the concepts are not baseless, they are our best attempts and we need to be aware of their limitations.
There are analogies in science where assumptions such as no friction are made. That simplification allows theories to be derived which are very useful. Complications arising from the real world can then be allowed for later.
This is really educative! Got me engaged.
Once again, thanks.
