Please can you explain how a marker can fail a student by 1 mark? It is very difficult to understanding that in the whole answer script the marker couldn’t find 1 mark to pass the student!! If it is expected for the student to know half of the syllabus then she or he does know by getting 49%, 1 mark wouldn’t make any difference! What’s the whole point of failing the student this way? It is extremely discouraging and especially when we have to wait for another 6 months to re-appear!!I’m very sorry to hear about your disappointing result. It is especially galling to miss by only one mark and one would almost prefer a mark of 45%
However, I suppose by the nature of exams a line has to be drawn somewhere and a paper with a 49% mark will have been marked more than once, especially as F8 has a low pass rate. It wouldn’t be right for ACCA to conceal near misses by never, for example, giving scripts a mark in the range 46 – 49. A mark of 49 means that you were only a hair’s breadth away and that you should have every chance of success next time.
I hope you can get over your disappointment and fight for success in June 2012.
