The below question is taken from the kaplan kit
The times taken to produce each of the first four batches of a new product were as follows:
Batch number Time taken
1 (100 minutes)
2 (70 minutes)
3(59 minutes)
4 (55 minutes)
What was the rate of learning closest to? (1 d.p)
Here the answer is 100r 2 = (100 + 70 + 59 + 55)/4, giving r = 84.3%But in the kaplan text book there was almost a similar question

4( 57 minutes)
A 70%
B 72.25%
C 82%
D 85%
Here the examiner just 100+70/2=85% learning rate.
So i think there is some mistake in the first question from kit and answer should be 85% not 84.3%.So in the kit solution why is examiner adding all the times takes from batch 1 to 4?The answer in the question from the kit is correct.
The average time per batch when producing 4 batches is (100 +70 + 59 + 55 ) / 4 = 71
Given the producing 4 means doubling twice, the learning rate = sq root of 71/100 = 0.843.The answer to the question from the text book (and the text book is certainly not written by the examiner!) is correct, but the workings are wrong. The average time per batch is 72.25, and therefore the learning rate is sq root of 72.25/100 = 0.85

Yes you are right the answer from the text book is correct as well but the workings were not correct and that,s what confused me.
