Firstly I’d like to thank you for all your efforts in producing such excellent content and helping us all.
My predicament;
I’ve been working in a finance role since graduating and have simply been putting off doing my exams and it’s been almost 9 years now.
I received 9 exemptions through my degree and so I only have to sit the final 4 exams now. It’s been a long time since I last studied but I’ve finally found the motivation to pursue my goal of being fully ACCA qualified.
With the changes to the syllabus, I’ve been advised that SBL is the most difficult and has the largest content so I was going to do that last.
My plan is to do APM first followed by AFM and cover the F5 and F9 lectures/notes to brush up on my knowledge beforehand.
Followed by SBR and then lastly SBL.
I wasn’t going to rush and will take approx 3-6 months to prepare for each exam and only do 1 sitting per exam period.
Please help as I’m not sure if I’m taking the best approach to this. You’re advice and guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
March 29, 2019 at 7:48 am #510772I would suggest that you attempt SBL first. It is relatively light on technical material and requires you to be able to write professional answers sensibly applying relevant theories rather than explaining the theories. I don’t know exactly what your job is but if you have spent perhaps 8 years or so in finance I think this will help you in the exam. Many candidates who find it hard to not have much work experience.
Your idea of brushing up on F5/PM and F9/FM before attempting the advanced exams is sound. You might want to consider the same for SBR
March 29, 2019 at 12:11 pm #510790I work in industry and my roles have varied over the years mainly within the social housing sector. I still prepare budgets and income expenditure statements but that’s about it.
So would you still discourage me from take my two optional papers first?
I was going to do APM in September. It gives me time to cover the F5 and APM content. I’ve also opted for class room tuition to really help nail it. That doesn’t start until July.
Then I’d prob do AFM in March giving me time to cover F9 and APM content.
Or do you think I’m going about this in the wrong way?
March 29, 2019 at 5:17 pm #510810No order is wrong – it depends on where you feel your strengths are and what you feel most comfortable with. Aiming for March 2020 gives you generous preparation time.
March 29, 2019 at 6:50 pm #510816Sorry what I meant was I’ll be sitting APM in September and then hopefully AFM in March.
March 30, 2019 at 8:45 am #510842OK. 4 months or preparation should be OK.
