Where do your ambitions lie? If you plan to move to the UK (assuming that you are not there at the moment) and practice as an accountant / auditor, the current requirements for obtaining a practising certificate are that you should have passed the English variant of the Law paper (and UK tax, and UKSBR and UKAAA)

If you have no such ambition, then the choice is yours

The differences between the two variants? English variant is concentrates more heavily on contract law whereas the Global variant looks more closely at the areas of arbitration and United Nations law, particularly relating to the UN rules / regulations that cover international trading

    OK?

What if I have exemption for paper F4, will it then impact my chances of moving to UK?
Another question. I’ve competed all F level papers except F4. I’m entitled to claim exemption for paper F4. Is it worthwhile to claim exemption for this paper and move directly to Professional level papers or would it make any difference or have an impact if i don’t claim for exemption and write the F4 paper. I have previously completed F1,F2,F3 papers. It is now that i have an option of exemption for F4. So what do you recommend?

From which university did you gain your exemption? If it was an English university, I imagine that the law variant covered would be English Law in which case this should not deprive you of gaining a practising certificate once you have qualified

You could always check out the position for yourself – put something like ‘accaglobal exemptions’ into your search box and see what comes up there that could help you

I seem to remember that the ACCA requires that your exemptions should cover the English Law variant syllabus and that, if you were also exempt, for example, the tax paper, then your exempting course should cover the UK tax system

You ask whether I would advise you to sit the paper even though you are apparently exempt

It’s not unheard of for students to sit papers for which they hold an exemption – when I held my own courses as recently as 5 years ago I always recommended that students with exemptions should take the management accounting and the financial accounting exams. But the law paper? It entirely depends on your dreams

What do I recommend? I can’t recommend anything because I don’t know where your ambitions lie nor how strongly you hold those ambitions!

Check with the ACCA (but I think that I’m correct)

Then, if you decide that you really would like to practise in the UK, you’ll need to take the exam (English variant) and forego your exemption

It’s no more expensive than claiming your exemption – it’s just that extra little bit of hassle
