The question is so complicated;my question is ;when examiners preperare such questions for students;would they be considerate of the time pressures in the exam? And would they be doing it for students to pass or fail? I worked it through;then checked the answers;i new the concepts and layouts but almost all my figures were wrong because of the exchange rates calculations.
Didnt know the exchange rates had to be inflated and then apply the inflated rates to the figures.
Also the length of the answers are quiet unrealistic in this question;surely one wouldnt expect a student to answer all that in an hour and half considering the time pressures in the exam.
My last exam in afm in dec 17 i got 49% failed with obne mark,am re-writing this march and i really need to get it right this time. Please assist with tips.I have one month to revise befroe the exam;what advise would you give?
Also I had started studying in december using the dec course notes;am almost finished with it but i see there are new course notes released for mar/ how wil this affect me? has there been major changes from the spt-dec;18 notes compared to the jan/march 19 course notes? as it is too late for me now to start studying the new notes? what changes must i look out for or updates in the notes?
Your assiatnce will be appreciated.thanks
February 2, 2019 at 10:29 am #503907There is time pressure in all of the ACCA exams, and the examiners are not expecting students to be able to completely finish every question (certainly not to the extent of the examiners own answers, which are much longer than are ever expected from students).
The two important things to remember are:
Firstly, that the pass mark is 50% and you are therefore aiming to get at least 50% on each question. Make sure that you do attempt each question, and that you do something for each part of every question. That does not mean finishing every part of every question – you won’t (either because of lack of time or because you get stuck) – but it is better to do something (however little) for each part, that to leave a whole part completely.
Secondly, it doesn’t matter how many of your figures are wrong – the marks are for the approach, and although obviously any mistakes will lose marks, if the approach is correct then you will still get most of the marks. But what is vital is that you show your workings in a way that makes it clear to the marker what you are trying to do. If the workings are so messy that they are impossible to follow then if the final answer is wrong you risk losing all the marks. If the marker can follow the workings then you will get marks for everything you have been trying to do correctly – even if you have made mistakes along the way, and even if you do not finish that part of the question. Finally, although AFM is more calculations that writing, make sure you get the easy ‘professional marks’ for question 1, and make sure that you write something for all the written parts of questions – however brief. Even if you are short of time, or the written part is about something you have little idea, then just writing one line might well get you that 1 extra mark that you need 🙂
As far at our lecture notes are concerned, the syllabus is the same for jan/mar 2019 as for sep/dec 2018, and so all we have done is re-label the notes – the content has not been changed 🙂
