Dear members and teachers,
I have a little concern. Seeing that how tech is disrupting many industries, do you think that one should pursue accounting? If so, then why? I am having mixed feelings about this and would appreciate if you could shed some light on it. Thanks!
December 6, 2018 at 8:13 am #487861Hi As far as I am concerned technology is taking over many tasks quickly. In my workplace lots of repetitive stuff is done by using macros and automated journals. Even account reconciliation can be done easier and faster. However there are still things that must be done manually. My manager always says “we must do more business partnering” rather than basic accounting stuff. I work as Assistant Management Accountant.

It’s therefore more of a threat to Accounting Technicians/Assistants than actual accounting professionals. Although I can imagine smaller companies needing less support, so reduced opportunities in practice accounting. The analysis/data side is a potential area of increase worth exploring if you are so inclined.
